Goodmorning :)
First night I slept at a somewhat normal time. It's now almost 6:30am and I can't fall back asleep.. Think I'm going to head down to our pool and gym to see what they're like and maybe our spa too. Haha, yeah. We have all those things for free in my building apparently.. :p
Last night, when I came back from O-week at campus I went grocery shopping for the first time. We have a big Coles just a couple of blocks away. Coles is like Genuardis in Philly, or Vivo at home. At least that's the feeling I got. Everything is pretty expensive :( and then I haven't even told you about the fruit yet. Bananas are like 120sek!!! Craaaazy! Jamie warned me the first day, telling me that's the reason people eat out all the time, because you don't make a profit by eating at home :/ it sucks!
Speaking of food - I found a Vapiano in Surfers this weekend!! Got so excited! Haha. Have to go there some day and make a comparison with the ones we have at home.
I went to school by bus for the first time yesterday with Eve to pay all my fees and get everything together. The money just flies away..! First I paid tuition at one building and got my Student ID, then it was time to join the Student guild where I got a take away cup (yay) at another bldg, only to move on to the campus bookstore to get all my textbooks for the semester & my GO-card for the bus and then we started looking for a place to eat. Poor Eve had to carry around her big sporting bag and laptop because she just checked out of her hotel yesterday.
We also went to the library, unibar (our student bar on campus), talked to the ppl in the orientation tent and found out that I DID have a special orientation that no one had told me about (wasn't stated on their site either) at 2pm so I had to stay around campus for a few hours.
I got a happy surprise when I paid my tuition. I had forgot that they would subtract my deposit when I paid the tuition so all of a sudden it was way cheaper than I thought I'd be :)
A not-too-happy surprise was - don't sit on the soft grass at uni - they have what we call pissmyror in Sweden and one bit me :( I got so surprised. They were so sneaky! Looked like regular ants and then it just bit me and injected me with something itchy. I know it's silly, but with all the rumors I've heard about the dangerous insects here I walked up to a girl working at uni and asked her about these super ants and if they were in fact dangerous or just equal to pissmyror. She laughed and said that I would be fine, but if something else bites/stings me in the future I now know where the health center is on campus.. Haha.
Eve stayed till my orientation started so I had company for a while. Thanks, Hun! I walked over to where the Study Abroad students were supposed to meet and started talking to some girls that I happened to place myself next to before going in for the session. Met some other girls when we sat down and then after at the little mingle sesh in the unibar where we got free drinks. Most people are really easy to talk too :) I met a few more Swedes and Americans. Two of the Swedes are taking one class with me so that'll be fun :) apparently there are trips to Byron Bay this week that I had no knowledge of, but I already have plans for next wknd, so it's ok. I'll do Byron another time. God knows time is one thing I DO have plenty of! :p
There's so much I want to tell you guys..! I wish I had Internet so I could Skype with some of you and show everything off, but Jamie brought his USB stick with the Internet with him (when he left for Whitsundays), so I can't get on the wifi.. I don't know of I should get a stick myself or just wait for Jamie to come back next wknd. What do you guys think?
Think I'm going to head out to the kitchen and get something to eat now. I really went all out with breakfast items. I got coffee, tea, yogurt, müsli, bread, juice and so on. I think it will last me for a while. I'll have to get more bread and yogurt, of course, but the rest will last :) or maybe I'll wait a little while longer and then sit out in the sun on our balcony. Yeah. I think I'll do that instead :)
Bye lovers!
