Got the day started about 7:30ish. Enjoyed a nice warm shower and said my goodbyes and got on the road around 8:20ish. It was pouring rain.
Today was a very very long day of traveling across Nebraska. There was not much to see. lots of nothing. Fields of corn and cattle. And absolutely nothing in between. Got gas every time I came across a gas station. Because I never knew when there would be a next one.
i did stop in the small-town of Keasley Nebraska at a Cabelas. It was a small store and layed out very weird. It got me off the road for a little while. I also got my bed ready in the back of the Jeep.
The weather began to get tricky, snow and ice . Instead of taking two hours to get to Valentine NE. It took 4. I was the only one on the road. They don’t plow the snow or put cinders down. They just close the roads. They have gates. Luckily none of them were down, so i kept going .
I made It to the small
town of Valentine, I stopped at the only gas station and filled up and grabbed a quick sandwhich. I made a reservation to camp at the wacky west travel center. It had good reviews. I got there, nobody was at the place. I drove around looking for the spot I was to be in . Couldn’t find it on the snow. So I started to get frustrated. I took a deep breath, I prayed. And decided to just park and try to crawl into my sleeping bag in the back of Jeep. it Was 23 degrees out and super windy,
As I layed there I could here crying, like a sick animal or something. Sounded like a lot of sick animals crying. I found out later that it was a stockyard full of cows that were to be Slaughtered .how nice. Well I was exhausted I closed my eyes and fell asleep.
Woke up around 3:00am. Was cold. in the sense of breathing in cold air . And cold around my face. I struggled to get back to sleep, at 6:30am I decided to just get up. It had snowed a lot about a foot.
