Ok a very long awaited blog enter again! This is mainly because we have travelled from the West coast of Mexico to the East coast of Mexico in like one week!
For the record Mexico is a very very big country which mean this has included extreme bus journeys, one night stops in places, late nights followed by early mornings and jammed packed days! Also we have met some amazing people which has kept us busy in the evenings, obviously just talking!!
We left Sayulita and sad goodbye to a place we both agree we loved! We headed back to PV for a recharged of batteries and a long bus journey back to Mexico City to visit my family again! Our batteries however did not get the kind of charge we expected, we went for dinner met a group of locals and ….... well I ended up in my underwear swimming in the night club swimming pool and we had to leave due to on a mission for burgers!! Both Maccy D's and Burger King let us down, good old Oxxo with there not so delisous microwave burger did help!
Our 16 hour bus journey was a disappointment not the usual luxury bus and so little sleep was caught up on, we had to wait again until the evening to catch our onwards bus. With little sleep we had to entertain ourselves in Mexico City for the day, this is a scary city to be when you are unsure of where you are going. We kept it simple booked ticket to see an English film in a cinema, this wasnt a simple task as Hana had previously told me my watch was telling the wrong time so we arrived at our film to see the ending! Oh well maybe one day I will know why the world started to end in 2012!
Another long bus journey to Puerto Escondido - the Mexican Pipe Line now for those who are not beach bums this is not Oil, Electrical or Phone lines this is a long wave great for surfing! We went to an great Hostel with a good kitchen and communial area, it had such a great buzz. We all headed out that night, even without any sleep and had a great laugh. A group went skinny dipping and got there clothes stolen not us thou! Hana, Courtney, Jonno and I found a local night club on the beach and joined the locals and learnt some great salsa all night. The next day Hana and I attempted some Spanish lessons, well 2 hours! The classroom had a beautiful view over the beach but did we learn anything im not sure but we wont be trying it again we are done with school!! Enjoyed some relaxing days on the beaches watching lovely sunsets and talking through life with some new friends. The group started to move on and therefore we decided to head inland to visit more than just beaches.
Travelling to Oaxaca was two options the long 10 hour 1st class bus or the 6 hour dirt cheap bus, we took the cheap option which was in a little white van with lots of local mexicans driving through the mountains on very windy roads a beautiful drive but not the so pleasant on the stomach! Oaxaca was a lovely city with lots of cultural and nice buildings. We enjoyed sitting in the plaza watching the day pass by. We drank some local hot chocolate with cinimon deliscious!! We only stayed one night, and the following day we set off to visit the Mount Albain ruins. Very proud of us we created our own tour! In the evening we watch old people dancing a much much slower salsa, Hana got hit on by the stud of the night so we had to run away before he could drag her to the floor! On the road again to San Cristobal.
San Cristobal was a lovely mountain city, with hot sunshine during the day but oh my it got cold in the evening. We explored the small one way allies, how anyone nagivates was impressive. Feeling we deserved a massage and being so cheap we booked our first and I think last Shrikah massage, a japanese massage were they do some praying and prodding you with there fingers! All this is some locals home who collected us from our hostel but then left us to make our own way back! It was an adventure and very funny moment to look back on. Convincing Hana to do another culture tour we went to visit the village with a crazy tour guide who we think was a recovering alcoholic who enjoyed rock n roll and had a sniffing problem! We saw how they made rugs, explained marriages and cooked us some not so lovely tacos! Heading to a second village who bribe the Mexican governement so they pay no taxes, they dont change to summer times, have there own laws and live in hugh houses with lots of cars but make you feel they lead hard lives very eye opening. Although it was difficult to take pictures as there religieon believes you steal there soul if you take a photo, and many tourist have cameras smashed so I was reluctant to take any! We visited there local church and watch a healing ritual, this involved a chicken being waved around the sick person while candles are lit everywhere lots of chanting and ending with the chicken being scarificed. I watched the whole process and wow I now understand the saying "running around like a headless chicken"! During our time inland Hana had become ill, fearing it may be swine flu I considered booking one of these doctors to perform a ritual, but we chose flu tablets instead!
After enough culture and inland stuff, I know we had spent like 4 days but it was enough for us to be craving the beach so we set off on our final and last long Mexican bus drive to Playa del Carmen.
