Akaroa

So… with our new and upgraded 6.6 meter campervan we hit the road and headed to Akaroa, after a tormenting drive up, down and around mountain tops we stopped at Akaroa town. It was a quiet little seaside town with a few unique French shops and restaurants set on the beach front (the French were amongst the First settlers). Of course we had to have a little look inside them and find out what Akaroa had to offer……..there were many unique and exclusive things for sale, we went into a shop that sold different fur items and Lucy bought a lovely Possum fur ear muff head band to keep her ears warm…which is well needed as it is indeed cold in the south of New Zealand! We also took a look….must I say an intended look in a fudge shop (well a fudgery!....according to another Lucyism) whereby we tried homemade fudge and out of courtesy had to buy a bag lol as it was soooo good (it's our new addiction!). We took a stroll along the beach front to our camper where we headed off to find a spot to get our heads down for the night, we found a lovely spot right next to the sea, it was so peaceful so we set up camp and had our supper….we're so self sufficient now as we have to buy, think up and cook food for ourselves or else we'll starve (which we all know isn't going to happen), but it can be real difficult trying to be creative with meals whilst on a budget and cooking on a 2 ring hob!

That evening, something strange occurred………..No, it wasn't a bump in the night…….Donna finally got to sleep before midnight, which as we all know is not a regular occurrence, when she was all of a sudden awoken by Lucy crazily shaking the phone in her face saying "Don it's your mother!!!!!!!", which was strange as she had only rang the night before, so a half asleep Donz answered the phone to what sounded like a rather stressed out mum!

"You alright?" Wendy abruptly asked.

"Yeah" said Donz

"what did you get arrested for last night?" Wendy asked eager for a reply…….

"wha?" Donna said in a daze

"I heard…. you both got arrested!" Wendy said sounding not too pleased,

Donzy slightly comatose immediately started to laugh knowing exactly where this had derived from………. the story unfolds that Beth…fully aware we had to end a phone call conversation with her the night before as the police had arrived to warn us of a snow storm, thought it would be amusing to tell Nadia that we had got arrested, Nadia then tells Darren (Donna's brother) and of course he then phones his mum hence the reason Wendy was having kittens on the other end of the phone! all this within 24 hours (which is all it appears to take nowadays in Pirac)After Donna gave her mum a brief explanation, Lucy and Donz were hysterical for hours about the whole scenario, firstly because Donzy never gets to sleep before 11pm and the night she manages to do so she is woken because of how fast idle gossip runs around Risca and Secondly….Beth have you nothing better to do??????Saying that……… it did give us a giggle!
