Soooooo now we're at destination Adelaide!............the home of the relatives. We finally got off our 3 hour Oz bus journey and arrived in Adelaide city where we were greeted by Donna's Uncle David and his son David and grandchild Tim. David kindly picked us up and took us to Uncle David's house in Prospect in Adelaide. We arrived at Uncle David's humble little home and were greeted by 2 pristine beds in a room both with baskets full of goodies…Australian Chocolates, sweets, Ozzy traditional treats and essentials, and lots of smellies all thanks to Dani………Thankyou! We had a cuppa and got our heads down for the night in our room with our two little beds in (rather than 10 beds) lol. The next day we had arranged to meet with the girls from the Oz bus and all met together in the city, over drinks we arranged to hire a car together for 3 days and planned trips for each day so that we could discover Adelaide. Much later that afternoon we headed back to our home for the next few weeks and got to work in the kitchen and cooked abeef roast dinner for the 3 of us....this has soon to become a tradition and we're getting good at it now so watch out Ramsey!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The following day we set out early to pick up our car….whoop whoop……..we were so excited. We all met at the car rental in the morning and we got told that we would be getting a bigger and better car instead and that we would be allowed a higher mileage….we do love a bargin…fab!!!! We checked out our new blue Nissan Tilda which was going to host our road trip for the next 3 days. So as planned we got in, buckled up, and set off for our road trip to the Fleurie Peninsulla. The car drove lovely and wasn't too difficult to drive as they drive on the same side of the roads as us and they all drive automatic cars so that's much easier too! Our first stop …(coincidently) was a winery that we had come across…….these are so good they give u testing on all sorts of wine for free! So while we were there we all bought a bottle of wine, then we were off again. Our next stop was at a cheese factory, where as the same as the winery you can taste different cheeses for free and see the cheese being made in the factory through a glass window in the shop. Sooooo we came up with the fantastic idea that we would all buy some cheese and have a wine and cheese night tomorrow night…..(posh for backpackers a?). We then drove onto Victor Harbour, this place was stunning it looked like something out of a film from the 80's, it had all the old style fun fair rides and games and the old style doughnut and ice-cream vans….we really liked it! We had all taken a packed lunch and sat on the beach to eat them and finished off with strawberries and cream pancakes from one of the stalls…yum yum. Just off from Victor Harbour there's a small island called Granite Island which is home to the Penguins, so we all booked ourselves in for a tour at dusk as that is when the penguins return to the island from a day at sea. We had a few hours before dusk so we went to a place called Goolwa whereby there's not a lot to do but a gorgeous beach so we prated about on the beach doing cartwheels and writing in the sand.
We returned to Granite Island for dusk and realized that everyone else was dressed in wooly hats, scarf's and gloves……..we were still in out t-shirts and flip-flops……..later we fully understood as we were stood around on this island at night freezing our butts off waiting for the penguins to climb up the rocks, lol it was fun tho! The penguins finally returned onto the island, they're soooo funny they wobbled loads and would fall over a lot and just get back up…cute! It was good to watch and learn about the penguins and we double learnt as we had a 'know it all' in the group that repeated everything our guide was telling us….its all good tho.
Day 2 of the road trip was a wine tasting day!!!! We headed out into the Borrossa Valley where they make a good percentage of the worlds wine. Our first tasting session was Wolfblass (one of our favorites), here we tried quite a few wines and felt a little tipsy…well we had to get ourselves in the mood for tonight lol (and no we didn't drive the other girl drove that didn't try much). Next winery stop was Jacobs Creek another famous wine that we love; this winery was very good as it had the full history of the wineries and fields and fields of grapes. We returned home well in the spirits of our wine and cheeses night so got changed and headed back to the girl's backpackers in the city for our posh wine and cheese night with our funky red and green plastic plates and wine glasses lol. We had lots of fun and laughs and ended up in the bar in the backpackers till 1am.
Our last day of our lovely Tilda car was spent at Cleland National Park (much recommended by Donzy's mum Wendy!) it was lovely the kangaroo's are so friendly and their fur is really soft and they're very cute and so gentle when they feed out of your hand…ohhhh we all melted over them! We also got to hold a koala and we seen a Tasmanian devil crunch and demolish the bones of a kangaroo neck!!!! Yuk! We spent the night having a meal with the girls at a steak house as a farewell meal as the girls were off in the morning.
The next day we said goodbye to our Tilda and gave her back and hit the shops in the city, tut tut! We spent Saturday night chillin in Uncle Davids house and had another Gorden Ramsey moment and cooked cakes, crumbles and pancakes we're getting good now lol!
For the next week we spent lots of time recharging our batteries (12hrs sleep a night) cooking and cleaning for Uncle David, taking walk, shopping ( Lucy has got a lovely bracelet made by 'LoveLinks' it's kinda like a charm bracelet, check it out on the net girls!) going on picnics and spending time with Donna's family. We went to young David's house for the night and we had a lovely night catching up on family stories and had a lovely Chinese for tea……thank you for a lovely night and the use of your internet!!! We have also spent most days with Donna's cousin Matt he's been so fab schoffering us around and taking us to all the sites around Adelaide and going out for drinks and introducing us to his friends….cheers Matt!!!!! So now we're packed up on sleep and food and Uncle David has been an absolute gem by making his home ours, with all the goodies and stories, doing our washing and having full use of his kitchen I think we're gonna miss him as much as he says he's gonna miss us when we go! So a big Thank-you to Uncle David and the Staunton Family (notice they've got an extra 'u' in their name…..old family mystery) and look out Newzealand! Here we come!
