Ahoj! (hello in czech)
Had another nice early morning on Friday, out of the house before 8 to catch the train to Prague. 2 trains and 8 hours later arrived in Prague, our trip made so enjoyable with the super noisy snoring man in our carriage. Beware Prague station is a labyrinth, the city is very nice if you're lucky enough to make it out of the station which we eventually did after like 15 mins of walking in circles.
We chose a wicked hostel which was about 20 mins from the city but easy tram access, really yummy free breakfast and we arrived to find that instead of the dorm we booked, we had our own private room for the same price! We also arrived to find the cheapest drink was not what you would expect. Think not even $1 for 0.5L beer while the same amount of water is like $3!! Sitting in the dining area an English guy walked in with three beers, his greeting to everyone was "40p beer! I'm not even thirsty but I'll be smashed tonight!"
Prague is a stunning city, most of the city is over 800 yrs old. Unfortunately we can"t put photos on here so you will just have to imagine how awesome it was...The weather was perfect, beer was cheap and the people friendly!
Spent the first day walking our legs off, seeing the fairytale-like castle, wandering the streets and paying god a visit in the most beautiful church I've ever seen. (called St Nicholas' of Lesser Town). Walked throughout the Old Town, New Town and over Charles Bridge. Popped back to the hostel to refuel before heading out again at night.
We were looking for a club, but got mystified by how gorgeous the city was at night. The atmosphere in the Old Town Square was relaxed and cheerful. At 10 o'clock we along with about 100 others stood in front of the town hall clock waiting for it to come alive which it is meant to do every hour. But apparently not this time! And apparently not at midnight either! Pretty disappointed!
Today we went to an old fortress overlooking the Vlata river which runs through the centre of Prague. Went into town and Wooda went shopping for new shorts (you can see his bum through the old ones). Had lunch in one of the squares - traditional czech food - meat and dumplings which was pretty cheap but then they charged us like $6 for bread and service! (Thought the price was too good to be true...) Was so nice sitting out in the sunny evening drinking the original budweisser. The day totally got away from us as I'm sure many more will. Got back to the hostel just as the rain started - perfect timing!
Chilled out in the dining area that night with some other backpackers. There are so many americans here!
By the way, back in stuttgart we went to the Mercedes Museum (hence the photos) which was probably the best museum I've ever seen - it is just designed so well and we spent over 3 hours there.
Off to cesky krumlov tomorrow.
Peace out.
