Christmas in Tropical Cairns

Wednesday 24th December – Monday 29th December

We started off Christmas Eve with a soak in the pool before heading off to the shops to get the food in for Christmas day. We did get some juicy extras including Pringles, rocky road ice creams fruit and vegetables not forgetting the trip to the bottle shop for xmas booze. When we got back to the campsite we finished decorating the van and set for being parked up for a few days.
CHRISTMAS DAY - THURSDAY 25TH DECEMBER

Christmas in Cairns and it was a balmy 36’C with 80% humidity freaky after we opened our presents and had a bit of a mini fry-up we hit the pool for the next 3 ½ hours till we had wrinkled up fingers and toes. After a shower we got our nice food ready, set the table and had dinner with a few new friends in Alex and Dan and another couple and because have left it so long not sure of their names. We had lots of drinks and watched a movie, went on a snake hunt before Mama Mia ended up on the TV!!!

BOXING DAY – FRIDAY 26th DECEMBER

We had a walk around the Boxing Day sales in Cairns centre today polished off with a Baskin and Robbins ice cream which was very nice. We walked along the esplanade looking for crocs and sea birds we then had a sunbath and Wolfie had a dip in the Cairns manmade beach that’s there so people can swim without the worry of being eaten or stung by the jellyfish.

On Saturday 27th we traded in the read books from the campervan and got Corinne’s next books that she needed she’s now on the order of the phoenix. We then had a walk around palm cove we were had stayed in 2005 before going to the Cairns night zoo. We seen loads of funky animals, greeted by a cockatoo had an all you can eat BBQ meal which was very nice watching the Japanese queue jump and stuff their faces. We seen a brolga (big bird), sugar glider, Australian barn owl, rudely woke up the koala’s, some big pythons and the highlight was the crocs. After a cuppa with the roo’s we left for the camper and back to the site.

We spent Sunday 28th December packing what we wanted and giving away what we didn’t want. It rained a lot and after packing we cleaned the van a little before spending some of the afternoon in the pool before having an early night ready for the journey to Sydney the day after!!!
