Byron Bay
Tuesday 2nd December to Tuesday 9th December
(This portion of the trip was all about R&R chilling out in old Byron Bay which used to be on so-called hippy trail of the 60-70’s)
We arrived in Byron Bay early evening passing the xmas tree with peace sign decorations, the streets full of travelers and schoolies (term for Australia school leavers who celebrate by going on holiday and getting pissed). After checking out the beach and surf we booked in again to a campsite that we had stayed on 3 or so years previously and had the nicest BBQ ever the blue eyed cod was amazing.
We spent the morning of Wednesday 3rd browsing around town bought a few bits for our house that we will own eventually had a sunbath and Wolfie went for a surf. In the evening we had prawns on the BBQ with some white wine relaxing in Byron Bay.
The majority of our mornings in Byron Bay started with a walk along the beach from the campsite up to the head land, this used to take about an our or so. We spent the majority of Thursday 4th December on the beach and in the water. We also went shopping and bought some funky stuff for our house which we will eventually own sometime in the future. In the night time we had another BBQ hmmmmmm BBQ’s all around this week.
We had a day trip away from Byron Bay on Friday 5th December to Nimbin in the hills and valleys which is still populated by hordes of hippies and stoners! We arrived in the town were there are places such as the Hemp embassy, shops like happy herbs and bringabong (like billabong). Off course there were loads of interesting characters coffin dodger stoners, people talking to themselves and all the dealers. In a couple off the shops the owners were smoking in the back with the smells drifting about. We were there about 30 seconds before getting offered some spliffs, in the Nimbin museum they were dealing up with a set of scales and selling SPECIAL cookies in the museum café. After a herb free smoothie and a look around the rain started to fall so we left the hippies to do what ever the hippies like to do and headed back to Byron Bay hitting the beach in the afternoon for a surf and sunbathe (or as the aussie’s say sunbake).
Saturday 6th December was gorgeous and after our usual morning 5k walk we spent the whole day on the beach surfing, sunbathing and raining. We drove up to the lighthouse in the evening before having yet ANOTHER BBQ in the evening with a glass or so off white wine. Following Saturday we had 2 quite days on Sunday and Monday just went to the market, a nice Thai restaurant and days sunbathing on the beach.
On our last day (Tuesday 9th December) in Byron Bay Wolfie finally got Corinne in the water for a surf which she really enjoyed although she did have a massive paddy at one point which was hilarious. Corinne made herself an anklet in the local bead shop before getting a Baskin & Robbins and sadly leaving Byron Bay!
