This morning we got picked up from the hotel at 9 am by Wonderful Tours and we travelled to Tham Xang which is known for its elephant cave. We got a chance to look inside the elephant cave and understood why it got its name; almost all formations in the cave have a resemblance to an elephant. To the right, on the inside of the cave, there stands an elephant figure that can be seen clearly. All of the elephant figures have been made naturally.
We then made our way to a river and received our tubes for the cave. We were told to hold onto the robes with both hands and pull, as the robes guide you through the cave. The entrance was quite tiny and we all had to lean back in order to make it through without hitting our heads. The inside of the cave was large, but very dark so we each had head lamps so we could see a bit better. Half way through the cave, we had to get out of the tubes and walk for 5 minutes because there were too many rocks. That part was difficult because the ceiling was low in some sections and some of the rocks were sharp. Once we reached the end, our tour guide with the tubing company told us to turn off our head lamps and told us a scary story. He kept asking if we were afraid and we would say no and he would tell us we should be because a ghost was in the cave. Then he threw something and there was a large bang and some of the girls screamed. Then he continued on with the story and threw some water on us. It was funny. Then he tried to rush is out of the cave by saying the ghost was coming after us. Our tour guide was very funny.
After the tubing we had lunch which consisted of: BBQ chicken with veggies as a skish kabob, some sticky rice, and a bagette. The strange thing is, you wouldn't think that in Asia they would eat so much bread but because of the French, bread is everywhere and the portion sizes are ridiculous. Even for breakfast I had eggs and a full bagette. So much bread!
Anyways, after lunch it was time for kayaking. It was a lot of fun but the current wasn't that strong. So we were unable to just float along without paddling, but there were a few rapids. However, while going down one of the rapids two people capsized their kayak and the one girl hit her leg against the rock and got some scratches and a nasty bruise.
Half way through kayaking we stopped off at a side bar and I relaxed in a hammock and then we sat in the river until in was time to kayak again. It probably was a good 2 or so hours of kayaking and my arms were getting so tired and I forgot to put sun screen on my back so I got burnt.
But we ended up finishing kayaking right next to our hotel so we just had a two minute walk.
Three of us then decided to check out the blue lagoon: a swimming spot. Rachel, Corina, and I hopped on a motor bike which Rachel drove to the lagoon. The road was a little rough since it was a dirt road and we had a cow dart out in front of us. But along the way there were cute Lao children that waved to us and said hello. The ride took us 45 minutes since we were only going 15 km.
The lagoon was pretty and we attempted to go in for a swim but it was freezing cold and as soon as we got in we could hear thunder. So we hopped back on the bike and drove back to the hotel, it was starting to spit a bit on the way back. The ride back seemed even worse as we seemed to hit a lot of the pot holes. And on occasion all of us would scream if we hit a rough patch. But we made it back quickly since we ended up doing 30 km and back in one piece.
We are going to be heading out for dinner soon then tomorrow we have a 7 hour drive to our next location of Luang Prabang. It's going to be a long day tomorrow.

Painter It sounds like you've found another group of girls to hang with and that all of you have the giggles! Good tour group leader if he can keep everyone engaged and laughing. Keep your sunscreen handy and your hat on your head so you don't get sunstroke. We're trying to keep up to your tour on the map and see that your in for several long trips to see as much as you can.
Thor Sounds like a fun day. Not sure I would have liked the caves. Seems a little tight . But sounds like the bike ride to the lagoon would have been fun.
