So after the ropey bus journey to the Thai border we swapped buses and were finally treated for the final four hours of the journey to the A/C bus we were promised in the first place. Walked around corner from bus stop and ended up on Khao San Road for those of you who have been to Thailand will know this is Backpacker Central and for those who have not bee, well I just told you wht it is so pay attention!!! As soon as arrived here it was quite evident that Thaialnd was a place (and this road in particular) where some serious drinking occurs. I could see e and Thailand were going to have a turbulent relationship for my time here, haha.
Had a wander around city the following day and got a Tuk-Tuk to Chatuchuk Market which is one serious market street or streets (its that big!!). The tuk-tuk drive was manic and these boys have got some serious engines hidden way in here compared to their Indian counterparts!!! Met a couple Irish guys that evening and their friend was in a serious accident whereby she had broken just about every bone in hre body and had been in intensive care for a while!! Not good but the way these loons hoon around in these things can see how that could happen!!! Went out that evening but did not drink due to me over dosing on laxitives (basically I had not pooed for near on a week and thought some help was required, little did I know how quickly or effective these little bad boys were going to take effect!!). Lets just say an unpredictable gut paired with beers may not have been a welcome sight in the bar and many a sprint was made to the awaiting toilet that evening!!!
Following day I got a message from Anthony (guy from Saigon) who said he was arriving Bangkok that day for a couple days stay before getting his flight home. met him in afternoon and we decided to go have a wander. As we were walking toward one of the many Wats a tourist Police offical stopped us and told us it was Buddha day and as a result the government had put on tuk-tuk's which you could get for 30 baht to take you to some of temples. Guy then flagged one down for us and off we went stopping at Black Buddha, another temple I forget name of where we chatted to a local lady who told us all about Bangkok, followed by Golden Mount which had some serious views from the top over the city................ Stopped off at some shops on route so driver could get his petrol tokens and then walked back to guest house afterwards.
That evening we met Trevor and Liam again (the Irish boys) and went for few beers, Them and Steve decided to call it a night and myself and Anthony headed over to Pat Pong. As we were leaving them I had my first run in with a Ladyboy I say run in, I did not know IT was a ladyboy until IT told me....... Dont worry was only chatting in bar. Now those who know about Pat Pong will know what its all about those who do not, lets just say I will never be able to watch a game of table tennis in the same light again!!! After this we both headed to a club where we drank and danced the night away until the sun rose and decided to call it a night (day!!). This would be my first encounter of Bangkok (an uplanned one at that) and although good fun it is probably a place best to be dealt in small doses........
For now I will have to leave the ladyboy love of my life behind and head up to Kanchanburi where we will go to visit the Bridge on the River Kwai. Cannot wait as know all about this from the infamous war film which was made about it.
