Day 21 A little bit of a sleep in today as we are scheduled to arrive in New York by train at 9:45pm.
Enjoyed the hotels' complimenty continental breakfast and procured some supplementary supples for the Amtrak "Maple Leaf" train service through to New York at 12:30pm.
Hailed a cab to the station about 7kms away. Bumped in to a few Aussies in the waiting rooms as they heard our accents and they too had been touring Route 66 taking around 4 weeks through to Niagara Falls driving convertible Ford Mustangs.
Our train took off right on schedule and we wound through several cities through to NY happily drinking our own contraband Budweisers!
Doing today's blog as we travel, it is 3.30pm and we have just gone past Rochester (next to Lake Ontario) - just had announcement that we are already running 1hour late! Our train journey was further delayed by several freight trains ahead of us and track repairs being undertaken and as we approached the penultimate station of Yonkers, a further delay of 40 minutes was incurred due to a pedestrian being struck by a train (fatal) and associated police activity. Finally arrived in New York around 3 hrs late :( Negotiated the subway worm of corridors and finally exited to street level. People everywhere at 1:00 am ! We are definitely in the city that never sleeps. Plans for walking the 950m distance to our hotel were quickly scuttled so a cab was hailed costing $5.00 including tip! Checked in and promptly collapsed into bed. Big city tour booked for the morning, can see a big caffeine fix coming on in the morning to get us through the day..............

Peter and Chris Welcome to the Big Apple. Make sure you visit Central Park, ride the subway and, well you probably already have, travel in a Yellow Cab.
