Day 12 - Chandler, Oklahoma to Coffeyville, Kansas.
We all had a good sleep last night and trucked on out along 66 weaving its way from town to town towards Tulsa. After a quick visit to Atwoods Ranch & Home store, where Tony played hillbilly dress up and Nikita scored two giant bags of popcorn for just $2, we ventured along yet another dirt section of old 66 that crossed the Ozark Trail just East of Davenport. Another short deviation (Route 66 from 1926-28) through Depew, a small town "time capsule" was worth the extra minutes.
There are greener pastures and towns are much closer together through this part. Brick roads laid in the 1800's are still in use today fill the side streets of Bristow.
At Sapulpa (not far from Tulsa) we moved away from 66 and traveled towards Sand Springs in hope of a rodeo and ranch-stay but alas it was not to be.
Not to be disheartened a new plan was hatched and we set off for Coffeyville in Kansas. Deserting Route 66 for a while by following the 169.
Parked up the Chevvy for the night at a Best Western Hotel and enjoyed the indoor swimming pool and fitness equipment. A warm 23 degs C here outside at 9.00 pm as we hit the pit early after several late nights.
Miles travelled today: 158.7, Driving time: 4:15. We farewell Kansas the Sunflower State tomorrow and head into Missouri.
