After another hot sticky night in Port Douglas we hit the road early and arrived at the croc adventure park for a days entertainment. The park has beautiful palm lined waterways through a thick rain forest and on the 1/2hr boat trip you get very close to about 20 croc's with some being over 4.5 metres long. They do a croc feed beside the boat and it's amazing how high and fast they can leap up. Throughout the day there are various shows about croc's attacking, demonstrating death rolls and them snapping at each other showing their size and dominance. The shows last 1/2 hr and are very informative and have a lot of that Auzzie humour thrown in. One show had the croc handler in a shallow pool up to his knees in water with a huge very snappy 4.5 metre crock feeding and teasing him. He seemed to know what he was doing but I certainly would not do that for any price! Another show was about snakes and as we sat right in the front seats we had two of Australia's deadliest 'a black taipan and a death adder' no more than a metre from our faces as the handler held them by the tail and with a hook pole. She made sure that they could not lunge at you but it was very exciting! Another cool experience was getting up close to a few fully grown Cassowaries as they wandered through their large enclosures while searching for food. It was nice having lunch on a deck by the river with croc's watching you eat and I'm sure they were sizing you up for lunch too. There were all the other creatures that you can find in the area too so all and all a very interesting and fun day. The park is huge and with many walkways through lush forest to all the different wildlife enclosures made a great place to explore. The drive further south to Cairns did not take too long and we booked into a camp which was close to town under clouds that threatened rain.
