A 5 hour bus ride took us to Luang Prabang. We went up to a mountain top temple (the name escapes me, but our tour leader called it something along the lines of p**** although I'm pretty sure I misheard) to watch the sunset. This one was actually worth watching as it went down behind the mountains & the red reflected off of the Mekong River. After sunset we had a stroll around the night market, which seemed as though every stall was selling all the same stuff (the girls assured me that this wasn't the case) but after a while it felt like being in a badly animated cartoon where they start to repeat the background over & over. That evening's dinner took us to Lao Lao restaurant in which the centre of the table was turned into a BBQ & we cooked our own meat, vegetables & noodles. This became very tedious after a while as we had to cook using chopsticks & I am as skilled at using them as Stephen Hawking is at running the 100m. I found that I couldn't pick up the food to put on the BBQ or take it off of the BBQ, but once it was on my plate I had no problem using the chopsticks to eat with. It would appear that once my ambition to eat the food is threatened, then I can do anything! On the walk home we tried to arrange a tour the next day for an elephant ride & a trip to the waterfalls. They were very keen to get us on board, but as soon as I asked if we could get a discount for booking 8 people, the tour was suddenly fully booked. How strange!!
