Jamaica was rugged. Even in the nice touristy areas of Montego Bay, things didn't feel quite safe. We really lucked out and got an AMAZING tour guide. Bob negotiated a deal with a bus driver and our crew of nearly 30 fit on a small bus to head towards Dunns Falls.
Dunns Falls is a an hour or so long hike up a rushing waterfall through the rocks in the jungle of Jamaica, and feeds down to the ocean. It was an incredible journey, everyone is supposed to hold hands, and walk up together. We were with some uncordinated individuals,so we opted to try to stay close to our family, and only helped out the other passengers. I really didn't want to be connected to these other two families that couldn't seem to stay on their feet.
Jennilee and Kylie made a good pair, and traveled the rocks together pretty easily, and Malikai and Narci stuck with Jeff and I pretty closely. Malikai helped me out in quite a few spots.
It was such a cool trek, and I am so glad we did it. Although it was hilarious to see the $5 jamaican dollars or $20 US dollars price difference in the rates. Apparently, it is a really popular spot for tourists and Jamaicans alike, but the tourists pay a hefty penny for their trek.
On the way back, our tour guide stopped and we ate at a local place for jerk chicken that also had tourist prices. She did have help us out and we stopped for souveniers at a very reasonable place. We all put our negotiating skills to the test and came out with some really good deals after bartering quite a bit. Everyone was running out of cash though, so we all wish we would have gotten a few more items, and had to all lend money or borrow from each other.
Jamaica was much more expensive than we planned on, but well worth it in the end, and we all headed back to the ship with lots of great memories and a few trinkets too.
