Oh my god, the bus journey here was a nightmare! After getting off of the Bangalore bus last minute, we had to catch another 3 bloody uncomfortable buses to get to Gokarna, followed by a rickshaw (as there are no buses) to get to where we're staying - Om Beach. It was worth it though - it's amazing here. It's completely secluded, all of the accommodation is just little huts made from weaved palm leaves with nothing in them but a bed, mosquito net and a fan, they're right on the beach about 10 metres from the sea... and they're on 150rps a night (£2)!The 'shower' blocks just have a bucket and a jug and cold water, so it's the typical Indian shower again! We love them though, and it's so hot here you really don't need hot water (but the first jug of cold over your body is always a shock to the system!).At night you can hear the waves and it's just gorgeous! There's a puppy at the shack we chose too, eeeh! And there are the usual cows roaming the beach!
We were only planning on staying for 2 nights but we're writing this on our 3rd night! We've done nothing since we've been here, as there's nothing to do!It's just pure relaxation. We've had a wonder across the rocks in the middle of the bay and found millions of crabs and a sea cucumber! And at the end of the rocks people fish - we met some guys who were fishing there, 2 from Germany (Lioness & Peter), 1 from Sweden (Alfred) and 1 from Quebec (Diom) who all met each other here (they've been here for 2 weeks!).They're really cool guys, last night we went to a beach party with them at the next beach along (Paradise Beach, which is even more secluded than Om beach!) which was a real experience! We had to catch a canoe-type boat there in the pitch black, and once we got there it was soooooo hippy!People with dreadlocks and bongo drums smoking weed and taking drugs and dancing to trance music! The party was at 2 bars - once was chilled out where everybody started off, and the other had the trance music where everybody moved on to!We spoke to so many travellers (not everyone was drugged up!) and we got hammered on local rum and coke! The whole night including the return boat cost £6 for the both of us!!!On the boat journey back you could see the water lighting up where it was breaking against the boat - apparently it's the plankton! So when we got back to Om beach we went skinny dipping (with clothes on!) in the sea with the 4 guys we'd met and it was unbelievable - the sea just lit up every time you moved in it!It was like glitter! It was so dark that you couldn't see each other at all, but you could easily see where everyone was because the sea was lit up around each person! It was unreal! We had such a good night, and didn't have a hangover this morning, so huuuuge bonus!Hays also text to let us know that Kel was in labour so that made the night too - can't wait to see the pics, well done Kel!
Today (21st) we met up with the guys again and borrowed a massive fishing net from a local, and just to test it out we tried it very quickly in our little bay... and caught hundreds of catfish! It was a mass panic though to get them back in the sea cuz they were caught in the net as their dorsal fin has a barbed spike on it (and we all got pricked whilst trying to free all the fish, which bloody hurt!).So many people on the beach came to help free the fish!We managed to free them all, but the guys kept a couple of the bigger ones which we had for lunch (which I wasn't too happy about but I can hardly tell them what to do!And I did help eat it!).After that we all had a game of beach cricket which was good, and then went back to relaxing! We think we're off to Goa tomorrow, but we'll see! We'll update you in the next blog!Love you all.xxx
