Today we picked up our motorhome which we anticipated to be spacious as 4 berth. How wrong we were....After the initial palaver of a flat battery we were introduced to our temporary home.
There's barely enough room to swing a cat. The main bed is a bunk above the driving seat and feels very claustrophobic so has become our suitcase storage area instead. We are having to make do with the sofa bed which has already collapsed once whilst I was lying on it (no jokes about my weight please!).
Anyway, after stocking up with supplies at a nearby Supermarket Stephen expertly navigated and drove us to a small town called Akaroa on a peninsular South of Christchurch. The drive there is very scenic through the mountains, lots of twists and turns in the road make for very interesting driving conditions!
The town itself is a former French colony which is apparent from the street signs and shop names. The houses are all traditional clapboard, generally white in colour, had a bit of an American feel in that respect. It was lovely in any event.
We stayed in a holiday park on the hill above the town and had a nice view of the town and sea below. This is where I had my first experience of the caravan park bathroom, oh how I hate them! Whilst they are clean and tidy, the though of showering in communal facilities always makes me feel unclean!
That evening we ventured into the town and found a lovely harbour front restaurant where they made fantastic pizzas. We sat outside as it was pretty warm and enjoyed a nice bottle of Savignon blanc or "sav" as it is commonly referred to here.
