This isn't the message I had planned but I have to say this, Europe (or at least Denmark) is everything I missed while I was in Asia. It's clean, quite, cool and god damn polite. But thats not to say it hasn't been without its eccentricities. In just a couple of days in Copenhagen I've witnessed:
The high school graduation ceremonies which involve the students driving around in the back of massive trucks while wearing sailor outfits screaming, whooping and doing the hokey pokey around fountains and statues (I kid you not)
A puck festival, complete with enough leather to make any hippie cry, more white face makeup than a years Rocky Horror show run and enough spark and angle grinders to film a scene from Blade Runner. To say we stuck our is a minor understatement.
The longest night of the year celebration. This involved burning a (fake) witch on a massive bonfire. We were lucky enough to attend a bonfire that had a Danish country music band playing - and yeah, it was as funny as it sounds. I think I pulled a muscle holding the laughter in. Being respectful is hard.
