I went to the Auschwitz and Birkenau concentration camp sites a couple of days ago (mandatory for any stop in Krakow). I intended to blog my thoughts straight away to get a first impressions reaction of the site. I got tired and went to bed instead.
Since then, I've been trying to form what I'll write and the more I think about it, the more digusted I am with the place and what went on there. From the meticulous record keeping and everyone who passed through the gates, to the rooms fulls of hair, shoes and spectacles salvaged from the dead and to the 'waiting grove' of trees where women and children waited to go to the gas chamber while the previous groups bodies were cremated.
Just disgusting.
