Today already, was the Kings’ last day as we set out to Indian Head taking us north about 20km on beautiful beach. Some whale sightings along the way, so close to shore Sime did his best to lose his drone to get footage of them. Up on Indian Head it was like watching a marine park go by, there were what we think were very messy sharks feeding from a school of fish, dolphins, sting rays, turtles and of course whales. We stayed up there for ages and were well rewarded with some spectacular sights.
Off to Waddy Point via some inland sand tracks again taking us through the cool forests, more scrubby trees than the huge ones from yesterday, but no less mesmerising - slowly bouncing along on the sand, so quiet with the windows down you could hear the sand pinging in the wheel base. Touch wood the car has coped so well with this sand island!
We passed Bogan Central all camped out at Waddy Point and headed to a lagoon where we set up camp for the afternoon, sand dune behind us for various recreational (but always dingo safe!) activities involving inflatables and stacks at the bottom. With a cheeky glass of wine we settled in for a few sparkling hours of sand play, lagoon swimming, old man cricket and paddle boarding. Incredible to look up at the kids swimming and to see whales gliding past in the background. A dingo decided to pay a visit, carving a path through the older kids with only the little girls remembering to make themselves big and not run away. Everyone gathered for a final photo call with the dune as a backdrop. Luke, Hamish and Flinn outdid everyone in the whaling themselves down the sand dune stakes for the photo after which we packed up to head back to Cathedrals.
Dan pulled out the projector after dinner and Sime managed to get everyone’s photos and his drone footage onto the sheet donated by one of the cabins and a photo display ensued. V fitting end to the 3 packed days the Kings have been with us, with some beautiful shots of the kids and awesome drone footage of the lagoon showing how gorgeous it was - way better than all our photos could.
