We spent a while packing up as we’d spread out somewhat for our Darwin stay, some advanced packing skills were required to fit in the fireworks.... now just hoping that we don’t get stopped and inspected, any contraband can be seized after today, as if anyone needed any more incentive to let off their entire stash in the space of a few hours. We didn’t have far to go but car needed to go back in to fix the wiper fluid leak left over from service yesterday. Luckily the Toyota was right next to a Coles and I stocked up for Kakadu a bit.
Left some flowers for the poor woman who lost her life on Sunday morning in a hit and run. Inexplicably, as we drove past hours later, her body was in full view of all the Southbound traffic on the Stuart Highway. They had blocked and diverted traffic in the other direction but not ours?! No one else in our car saw her thank goodness, it was a little close to home for me to see, but more than anything, I am so angry for her and her family that she was left like she was, discarded on the side of the road for all to see, obviously waiting for the proper people to arrive to investigate. I cannot believe that was the right thing to do, not to divert both directions- for her privacy and dignity, I am, and will always be, appalled at the way she was treated after her death.
We arrived in Jabiru quite a few Harry Potter chapters later, none of us (except Stu) wanted to get out of the car because we’d missed it so much!
Sent to the back of the campground again with all the plebby non powered sites, we setup and kids had a swim at campground pool before we downed some beef strog and sent kiddos to bed. While Matt was in shower I had a visit from a dingo who was casually nosing around under the table but scared him off, much to delight of the tour group next to us who saw him run away and went to look at him with torches. That didn’t help my chances of sleeping that well so a long hot buzzy night of listening to the wildlife including my whistling kites in the distance and wondering if the dingo was coming back to sniff around anymore!
