Nice birthday homemade pancake breakfast shared with my nearest and dearest. All of us loving having Mummy Skye around, so much so kids enthusiastically completed a word game at her request while she was in the shower, which continued long after she returned. We decided to visit a croc farm nearby, one of the top ten things to do in Darwin, this is a strange list consisting of two croc parks, Mindle markets, some water parks and some oil tunnels never used in the war, plus some day trips to Litchfield NP and Kakadu.... lucky the nightlife looks like it goes off, old school bars crowded spilling out on every city street corner.
We got to hold a baby snake and croc and watch the big crocs in the breeding pens get fed. Some of the big boys didn’t get a girlfriend in their pens as they don’t play nice. There was also a bit of a zoo at this place, got up close to some massive ostriches and a hilarious display of very ratbag human behaviour from the baboons. It was getting pretty hot so we headed in to have a look at the indoor display featuring a lungfish who liked hanging upside down playing dead and some lunch, which was an amusing affair involving a very inexperienced waiter, some pies that were still frozen and the combined (polite) wrath of Matty and Skye.
We headed to the free water park at Leanyer to be blown away by an incredible suburban facility featuring 3 massive water slides, huge toddler water play area and a pool. Even the adults hooked into the slides which were pretty fun. It wasn’t very crowded but I guess this is winter for local Darwinites, low 30’s is totally warm enough for a swim for us though and we really enjoyed our time here. Some local kids playing with the resident kites who were expertly swooping for midair catches of cheese and bacon ball missiles, unwittingly also coming into firing range for a larger football to be pegged at them.
We headed back to trailer to tart up for dinner and headed into the waterfront with our new four across the middle seating configuration, which of course causes no squabbles at all.
Everyone was on their almost best behaviour for mummy’s bday dinner, a fancy degustation affair which was lovely, with wait staff who had no idea about kids but trying their best to tolerate them. Headed home very tired and wondering what Territory Day would hold! So special to have Skye around for my bday xx
