Jurien Bay to Cliff Head South Campground
Busy day with lots of things to do. Started at 5.00 am standing outside our camper watching the Eta Aquarids Meteor Shower - saw quite a few meteors. Breakfast and coffee at The Bakery Cafe (opens at 5.00 am), coffee was so good
Walked along the beach next to Dobbyn Park down to the old Jurien Pier - early morning photo opportunity. Saw a small sea lion just off the beach. Smiles on both our faces.
Snorkelled with the sea lions at Ellis Rocks. Tour hosts were Lyndon and Rosey from Turquoise Safaris. Great fun even if we only had one sea lion swim close to us. fPlenty of sea lions including pups visible on the island. Ocean conditions weren't ideal, +2.5 metre swell, poor visibility, strong current and wind.
Next stop Dynamite Bay - crayfish rolls for lunch. Less windy conditions and this would be a lovely spot.
We were thinking Milligan Island camp ground as a potential place on our return leg ... don't think so. The dirt road is really badly corrugated and the maximum speed limit is 30 km/hr which makes the corrugations even worse. This could be a tactic of the Coorowa Shire - no camping anywhere and didn't see any rest areas either along this section of the Indian Ocean Road.
Cliff Head South campground is a nice spot. Free camping and there was a full house of campers for the night. Facilities include undercover seats, communal fire pit and long drop toilets - no toilet paper.
Problems with the Maui again, deep-cycle battery is cactus, didn't last 24 hours off connection to mains power. Not impressed!
