This photo shows the start of the climb at Uluru. The guide who was leading our tour said that if you could not make the first part with chains for assistance, then you would not make the whole climb. The climb is closed for weather conditions at times. There were people on the climb when we drove into the area but by the time we reached the information centre the climb had been closed due to high winds. The guide informed us that there had been a number of deaths on the rock. We watched an elderly couple attempting to climb back down the last part (chains) and they were struggling.
Even though we were not able to climb the rock (we probably would not have anyway, regard for indiginous people), it is an awe inspiring experience. We had heard about and seen photos of the rock, but nothing can beat the personal experience of being there.
