We did not spend much time thinking about the weather. We definitely should have paid attention. After we returned from the Carlsbad Caverns, it started to rain and it only stopped for brief periods for the rest of the week. We were supposed to leave Tuesday morning, but when I called the Harvest Host site in Abilene to confirm our stay for Tuesday night, he told me that the whole area was flooded and we could not come in. We decided to stay an extra night at the RV park in Carlsbad. It was a pretty remote area. It was 15-20 miles to a gas station for restaurant. Luckily the site was full of families and James & Rose had lots of kids to play with at the playground. The park would also normally have big nightly BBQs, and a pool, but those things are still shut down because of Covid.
Rob has a pretty sweet "road office" set up. We got this netted gazebo to be an extra room outside of the RV and it is working out as an office too. We just break out a folding table and chairs. The Gazebo is great because it only takes Rob about 10 minutes to set it up, by himself. For me, it takes about 12 minutes before I throw it all back down in a pile and storm off to find Rob. We also brought a smaller 2 person tent that the kids can hang out in to be outside and keep the mosquitos out.
We left Carlsbad at about 5 a.m. on Wednesday. Rob's workweek schedule is to drive for a couple of hours early morning before his workday starts at 8 a.m . Arizona time. Then he'll stop at a park or a Cracker barrel parking lot and work until the workday is done and then have afternoon/evening activities or drive to the overnight destination.
