Abilene was a good stopping place because it is halfway between Carlsbad and Dallas. Since the place we were planning to stay overnight was still flooded, we decided to boondock at "See Bee State Park", on a lake on the north side of Abilene. When it's not flooded, it looks like it might have some nice walking trails and spots to fish and kayak. Today it looked like a murky marsh. But there was a spot high enough for us to park for the day while Rob worked and stay overnight before we headed to Dallas. The kids and I were outside trying to find a good spot to put up the gazebo and the kids tent. There was a nice flat grassy area behind the RV that looked perfect from a distance. But when we got closer, we saw the ant hill that was as high as James' knees and Rose pointed to a giant pile of poop and said, "Is that bear poop?" I told her "Of course not! It looks like maybe horse poop to me" later I googled "animal poop pictures" and it was definitely bear poop! So we settled for a less flat and less grassy spot right next to the door of the RV, just in case we had to make a run for it.The rest of the night I was on the lookout for bears and while I was sleeping, I swear I could hear howling, like a Coyote or another man eating dog.
The only photo that I took in Abilene is this photo of the sunrise as we were getting out of town.
