We are Sailing
Today we were setting sail for Sipanska Luka on the isle of Sipan. We are now making our journey to the north of Croatia, but in doing so we have to do a little back tracking. The girls went down to the shop to get the stores that were needed for our journey. The boys were back at the boat filling it with water and giving it a bit of a spruce up.
We left on time and just before the other boat with its rowdy mob. Brian took us for a sail around the bay to the Old Town, where we could see the Wall from the ocean. It truly is a sight, and certainly would have been a formidable defence for any one wanting to attack from the sea, Stuart and Heather were also following us, and I am sure their visitors appreciated the sight also. But now it was off to Sipan.
Pete was skippering today. The journey was only about 12 mile and took us only about 2 hours. When we arrived the other boat had moored in the bay, but we decided it would be easier to moor on the jetty.
This island to is another pearl in the Adriatic. The town had been bombed in the recent war, but there is only a few signs of that happening. It was extremely hot, so we all decided to walk around to the other side of the bay, to an area we saw when coming in. It was swimming area that had been marked out, and it had this rather rough but cute bar on top of the hill over looking the area. We soon cooled ourselves down with all the locals, then retreated to the bar for a few drinks. The water again was so clean and swimming was such a pleasure. On the way back to the boat, we stopped at the Hotel Sipan for a few more coldies. This time the girls tried out the local Pina Coladas, and given the silly looks and giggles, one can only suggest they enjoyed them. I tried out a Virgin Pina Colada, and the reaction was nowhere near the same. After our drinks, we made up our minds we needed to get back to the boat so we could get ready for tea. So no more pit stops! We had booked tea in a restaurant that Brian and Dianne found when they were last here. It was located in a very beautiful part of the town, and the staff were absolutely sensational. Such a good sense of humour.
All our meals were very good, and the evening was perfect. There was a chap playing the guitar, singing in Croatian (though you did know the songs), and he was also very good. It was bit surreal, and certainly worth the trip to.
The locals were watching an outdoor movie in the town, providing a little competition for the guitar player.
Even though we were leaving the next day, we all decided we would get up early and walk up around the back of the town and see the old buildings and get a view of the island from a higher point.
