Ao Nang is one of a number of beaches that run along the west coast in Krabi Province. It's probably the most built up but that doesn't really say much because everywhere is generally very quiet. There are plenty of places to stay, eat, drink, etc. So we found a place to stay for a few days and explored on another moped. This area is very familiar to me because it is close to where I was teaching on my last trip to Thailand. I have really enjoyed Lisa seeing this place as well; it is truely beutiful. It is much more lush and green than any other part of Thailand, with tropical forests and limestone Karst formations jutting up here and there. The beaches are white and clean with turqoise waters.
We had planned to find a place to stay for the next two months. We would then use that as base to explore the area, unpack our bags and hopefully save some money in the process. We had also hoped that I might have been able to find some work teaching short term somewhere nearby. We took a trip to my old stomping grounds in Ao Luk to visit my friends there and talk about a possible job vacancy. However, the trip was a bit of a wash out as the vacancy had been filled and many of my friends were away for the weekend. It wasn't all bad though because Lisa got to see the place where I spent the most part of last year and we also stopped into the nearby National Park.
We returned to Ao Nang with a clearer plan to find somewhere to set up camp for the next two months. That very night we went out and found a beautiful apartment on a complex owned by a Danish guy called Niels. The apartment is great with a fully furnished kitchen, great bathroom, cable tv, dvd player, air con and a private swimming pool! Niels offered us a great price on the place so we snapped his hand off (not literally...).
So that's us right now... We have this great place and a moped to explore the area. We're quite happy not rushing around and doing things in our own time. We spend days at the pool or the beach; or we go explore. It's great!
