This morning was the biggest sleep in I've had for this entire trip - 9am! I woke up all through the night though, worrying about how late I was sleeping because it was light at 4am! So not dark until after 11pm and then light before 4am, it's crazy. So of course every time I woke up I thought it was really late and I had slept in too long. Once we got up, Tove made me some breakfast which was a bit Swedish. Apparently they eat caviar on toast for breakfast in Sweden. It came in a tube and spread on like peanut butter. I tried a bit, but it certainly wasn't something I could spread on my toast!
By the time we slept in and then mucked around getting ready, it was about midday. Tove had a hair appointment at 1pm, so we caught the tram into town and by the time we got off it had started to rain. Tove showed me where some shops were and then she went off to her hair appointment while I wandered around. The rain got heavier and heavier, and I did have an umbrella, but I was still getting soaked. Plus my jandals were so slippery on the cobblestones and I don't know how many times I almost slipped over, so I was getting a bit frustrated.
By the time we met up again at 2pm, it was pouring down. We had semi-planned to go to the Gothenburg amusement park today, but obviously in the rain we changed our minds. The weather forecast is set to be bad for the whole time I am here, but hopefully we'll get at least one clear day to go there.
So we decided to go and get some lunch. Tove took me to this awesome French cafe. It was 2 story and had really cool décor, etc. The food in the cabinet also looked amazing, like the French bakery we went to at the beginning of the trip. We both had a lovely lunch and then we went for a wander to the shopping mall so that I could get some Swedish money out, and then we went to the supermarket to get some groceries for dinner. They have very cute little trolleys here which you wheel around behind you like little old ladies.
From the supermarket, we jumped back on the tram and headed home to relax for an hour or so, and then Tove's friend Sarah came around for dinner and to watch a movie. Sarah is Swedish, but has been living in New York for the last year or so and has an incredibly strong American accent. She doesn't even sound like a European speaking English, she just sounds hard out American. So Tove and Sarah made the Swedish version of tacos for dinner and we watched the movie Invictus. The tacos just had a few extra ingredients added to them than I'm used to, and they use creme fraiche with feta in it rather than sour cream. It was different, but tasted ok. Then I fell asleep and missed most of the movie, and when I woke up Sarah had gone home. I knew that would happen. I can barely keep my eyes open to watch a movie at home, let alone when I haven't slept properly for the last 3 weeks.
