So after the night out last night, I had 3 hours sleep and then woke up this morning with terribly fat ankles and legs, as well as a hideous red rash all over the bottom of my legs. I don't know if it's a heat rash or related to the swelling. Luckily today was another travel day because it meant I could catch up with some sleep and rest my feet. The only thing is though, we need to be able to elevate our feet which we can't do in the coach. So I'm not sure if sitting for ages or walking for ages is better! They've only been like this since we got to Italy and I just think it's because it's so hot and we're just not used to it. Hopefully as we head north, it will cool off a little bit and we will be able to cope a bit easier.

Today was our shortest trip so far, only about 4 hours driving. We have a new driver for the next couple of days because Steve has to have 2 days rest. We go back to Florence on the way to Venice to pick him up. We stopped at a service station half way and had some lunch. Here you have to order and pay for your food, then they give you a ticket, and then you go to another counter to collect your food. So it gets a bit confusing when you actually need to order something by name and you can't just point to it.

When we arrived in Rome, we did a driving tour around the city in the bus, where Andreanne pointed some things out to us and told us a bit about them. Then we walked up to the Vatican museum and waited for our Vatican walking tour guide. We had little headphones this time so that we could hear her, which was much better than yesterday. As we went in, because we were going into a new country etc, we had to go through security machines and have our bags scanned like at the airport.

Vatican City is the smallest country in the world with only about 1000 people, however about 22,000 people visit it each day. The lady took us through the museum and again mainly talked about art, and then we went into the Sistine Chapel. We weren't allowed to talk in here. We also had to make sure our knees and shoulders were covered to go into the church, and if not you either needed to buy a scarf to cover up, or you couldn't go in. This is the case with all Italian churches.

After some time in the chapel, we went out into the large courtyard out the front. This is where the Pope does his speeches from the balcony. We walked to get back to the bus and by then my ankles felt like the skin was about to split open. We were originally meant to be doing another walking tour around Rome after this with Andreanne but they decided to postpone this until tomorrow as no one seemed as though they were going to cope. Even the guys have got swollen feet now too.

So we ended up heading to the campsite early. We unpacked our bags in our cabins and then headed up to the bar for some wifi before dinner. The last 3 places we've been at, we've had double cabins with 2 bedrooms and a shared bathroom. They're neat little cabins. There's a restaurant in the campsite, so we all had either pasta or pizza and a can of coke for 8€ each.

Luckily we had an early night with no parties organised tonight. I stayed on wifi for a while and then tried to have a shower but I broke it! I tried to swivel the head and it just fell off completely and I couldn't get it back on. I tried to have a shower without it, but the water just poured all over the floor, so I had to go down to the public showers in the campground. Hopefully it will get fixed tomorrow.

Now we're in bed for a reasonable nights sleep. I've kept my legs elevated for a little while now before getting into bed. They're itchy as at the moment too. As I wake up in the night, I'll elevate them on the wall again.

Tomorrow we begin the day with the Roma walking tour and then we have a free afternoon in Rome.
