Firstly can I say a very happy birthday to my son, Adam. I hope you had a great day, due to lack of Wifi, he'll read it late, but the thought was there xxx
Today's Tuesday and here we are moored by another island, this time South Plaza. We travel on our Queen of the Galapagos at night between islands. Peter and I have Cabin 3 which isn't ideal when it comes to the anchor being lifted before we sail or at the end of each evening voyage. Due to tides and currents we usually leave our mooring at 1am and dock around 5am depending on how far it is between islands. The noise of the engines and the lifting of the anchor wakes the deepest of sleepers and our beds are just above both! Luck of the draw I guess, but we've learnt a whole new way of life here. We crash out between 8 and 8.30 in the evening and are up and ready for breakfast by 6 am!!!! Anyone that knows me well will be UTTERLY FLABERGASTED at that thought.
So easily by 8am, we are fed, watered, covered in anti mozzie creams, potions, bands and sprays, with backpacks full of hats, factor 50, cameras and the like we head off to walk around the latest island which today is the home to the largest population of land iguanas, as well as various amazing birds like the blue footed Booby, also brightly coloured Sally Lightfoot Crabs and Sea-lions swimming around our dinghy as we land.
On returning to our boat there is always a table full of jugs of freshly squeezed local fruit juices, crisps, cakes and biscuits. Whenever, we never seem to stop eating. We then head to a snorkelling spot, where the highlight of my day is a Sea lion who dances and twirls in the water almost nose to nose with me. Of course we are totally surrounded by hundreds of tropical fish and the clarity of the water is much better.
Lunch is served around noon each day, usually 3 courses, all homemade and delicious. The soup is fabulous, a great choice of Chicken, rice, vegetables, salad followed by fruit or an ice cream or fruit mousse desert. There is always tea, coffee, or water to enjoy as well as chocolates and cookies to accompany your drinks.
On travelling from South Plaza to Seymour island for our afternoon activities ( more animal viewing and a fabulous beach to see) we are followed, on the top open deck of the boat by around 20 Frigate birds, some males who have the red inflated neck, to attract their females. They land on the bars around the edge of the boat, swoop and glide in the thermals above us, land on the mast and just give us a thoroughly amazing display of their agility.
Back to the boat we go, at the end of another fantastic day to shower and change to be ready for the next day's briefing and yet more food, with a glass or 2 or a very crisp, icy cold glass of Sauvignon Blanc. Perfection once more.

armitage I am flabbergasted at your early mornings joining my world but hey what a great reason for getting up and what you are seeing is nothing compared to my views of hairy arsed truckers. Loving the blogs
