Wandering Wheels
Time to rest the legs and take in some of the superb sights of "The Pilgrim's City", Santiago De Compostela, the ultimate milestone for so many travellers.
The foremost attraction is the striking Cathedral with its golden shrine to St James and huge swinging `botafilmero'; a massive incense filled sphere that swings through the Cathedral like a big smoky pendulum during the pilgrim's mass and takes 8 men to get into full flight!
It is truly an inspiring scene to watch so many pilgrims from all walks of life arrive on foot and by bicycle to rejoice in their personal achievement. An Italian man we met literally jumped for joy upon arriving from his homeland, covering 2500klms all on foot.
We continued our own journey towards Portugal and met some new friends on the way. Upon arriving in Baiona we were asked by our camping neighbours (two Dutchmen, Robbie & Marcel, and their beautiful dog Daisy) to join them for a drink even before we had unpacked and set up camp. Thought it best to at least get the tent up first as well as pull up some sand and cool off in the water. To our pleasure we later drank and dined the night away while watching the sun set. Treated even further the following morning to freshly brewed coffee before heading Portugal bound! A satisying way to end of first leg of Spain, thanks for your hospitality guys!
Distance to date: 3072klms
