Day 61:
To market, to market to buy? Well we were not sure but we wanted tuna at least. Headed in towards Adelaide CBD and at 9 AM it was quite pleasant driving even when we found carpark and could pick any site we wanted nearly. We did a walking reconnaissance of the place and kept saying we will get some of that, my idea was to buy it as we saw it but Mr Organised wanted to peruse and then purchase best prices. Sat and had a coffee with a delicious rhubarb and pistachio pastry then set off again. Do you think we could find the correct stalls - no way José. So walked a million miles for some cheese and olives ( I have not had cheese on this trip for the usual reasons but I will suffer when we partake of these delicacies). We weren't going to but a lady was handing out samples and she overcame our will power. Some duck purchased also some lamb loin chops BUT no tuna anywhere, stupid place. Put all our goodies in the car and returned to think of lunch, walked out of markets and looked at the city centre and went 'nope we hate cities' . Turned around and we were in the Asian area and agreed yum cha would be good, as we were standing outside one of the top 20 Yum Cha places in Australia apparently, a newspaper article said so. We ventured in and were seated obviously in the non-Asian section all on our own, nothing like discrimination. It was an order off the menu so we did but were not sure what we were getting but it was very good but one of the plates was a full-on meal so we had over ordered but worked our way thru it all nearly.
After lunch we went back to the van dropped off our things and did a drive into the Adelaide Hills behind us, lovely area with lots of vineyards and beautiful properties. Headed towards Hahndorf where his lordship needed an ice cream again, my goodness he never stops. Lots of the shops closed being Wednesday so could not check out much but it used our afternoon up. The night was disturbed by Koalas fighting so we knew they were there somewhere.
Day 62:
Packed up and so happy to get out of the city. Stopped at a set of lights just on the verge of the hills and a tradie next to us asked me to wind down the window to talk to us. 'I cant wait till I am your age and could do what you are doing, working hard to buy my van and then we are off just like you, you must pinch yourselves everyday'. I told him this was our 5th month on the road this year and he was so jealous, absolutely lovely 40ish year old he just wanted to chat about our travels but the lights changed and kilometres up the road he waved enthusiastically at us and 'safe travels', made us smile. Most workers hate 'vans in their way as they are too busy and the roads should not be cluttered with us'.
Stopped at a café in Tailem Bend, strange place, with records (LPs) playing 50s and 60s music and all decorated like a diner in America. No decaf - 'absolutely not' was the answer, would have walked out but only café in town. Pinnaroo for lunch for a garbagey hamburger, my chicken burger was questionable but we are just doing the kms now to get across country. Two kilometres on from Pinnaroo we crossed the border, yee haa on good old fashioned standard eastern time with daylight saving. Fields of harvesting going on and the views are just still golden paddocks of wheat. Now at Ouyen, town of the Big Mallee Stump. I didn't waste a photo on it cause it was just a stump with a dead tree, not exciting. On the highway and at 5 in the arvo it is noisy and so not looking forward to the evening but another day closer to the destination.
Love to all and sundry and special love and hugs to Karina and Rory on their 4th wedding anniversary. xxxx
