After 5 days in Seam Reap, we took a bus to Thailand. We arrived to Bangkok and stayed there over 2 weeks, because I tried to get a job. But it didn't work out; I think they don't hire foreign people that easily. I didn't even have a working visa. When we were in Bangkok we could experience the Thai New Year. It was the best party ever! The celebration lasted 4 days. Everybody had water guns and buckets and threw water over everybody. It was impossible to go out and not to get wet. Many places like restaurants and shops closed for that period, it is the only holiday many people have in a year. But it was so nice to see everybody having fun, tourists, and Thai people, old and young all together!
It seemed more and more oblivious that I couldn't have a job in Bangkok, so we decided to go to Australia and work there. We applied for the working holiday visa by internet. It was very expensive, 170 Euros! But the visa is for one year. After having paid and confirmed the visa application, I noticed that I had made a mistake in my date of birth! I had put that I was born in November instead of December! It was so stupid of me! So I sent them right away at least 3 emails, plus a copy of my passport. After the only thing I could do was to wait their answer. We didn't know how long time it's going to take that the visas will be granted so we decided to go to see an island called Ko Payam.
Ko Payam is situated near the Burma border. It was an amazing place! It was the low season so there weren't many tourists. We were the only tourists in our guest house. Also many times we were the only ones at the beach, it was just for us! We had a bungalow near the beach. The toilets and shower was with the bungalow but there was no roof in the bathroom. It meant that we could take a s*** and look at the stars!
Every night about 11 pm there were no more electricity, the electricity worked only between 6 pm and 11pm. Also we had some new friends in our bungalow every night. First came all the big weird bugs, then the spiders and then a snake. The snake was small but we didn't want to take the risk so we called the man of the guest house to get it. I asked if the spiders were dangerous but they said no. I didn't really believe them so every night I checked every place of the bungalow and killed the spiders one by one. Every night after dark the geckos came out and waited that the bugs come flying around the light and then they had their dinner. But the bugs were so stupid, the just went crazy around the light and often flu too fast, hit themselves and dropped on the floor. And then came the ants and attacked the bugs. So it was very interesting to watch all this, it was like a zoo!
David had first his visa approved for Australia. I started to worry because usually when there is a mistake like that they don't really care, they just can charge you again for a new visa. So again I send few emails explaining my situation. But after few days they send me the approval for the visa!
After Ko Payam we went to Hua Hin, a big city just 3 hours from Bangkok. It is situated at the sea and is very, very touristic. There were a lot of Finnish and Scandinavian tourists. The city is very expensive, almost more expensive than Bangkok. It was hard to find cheap meals. But our guest house room was the best we have had for a long time, we had a nice view, a balcony, and a fridge! The beach of Hua Hin was not good, it was dirty and small and too many people.
We booked our flight to Melbourne on a low cost company. It would be a direct flight about 9 hours. We came back to Bangkok about 5 days before our flight to Melbourne. Our only mission was to do some shopping because in Melbourne it would be very cold because it's winter. Also we needed some clothes for work. The week-end market of Bangkok was perfect for that. It's one of the biggest markets in Asia. It's huge and you can find everything you want from there. Also it's very cheap.
