After 6 hour bus trip from Phitsanulok, we arrived to Chiang Mai. Chiang Mai is the 2nd city of Thailand and the biggest in the North of Thailand. It's also full of tourists.
We took almost 3 hours to find a guest house, everything was full!! It was because of the Chinese New Year, many Chinese come to Thailand to celebrate.
Finally we found a guest house for 200 baths. It was kept by a Thai family and they were very nice and welcoming.
We rented a scooter and visited the city. There were more than 300 hundred temples all round the city! But after Ayutthaya and Bangkok, we had seen enough of temples...
We also went to see a thai box match! It was only 400 baths. Not 1000 like in Bangkok. But it wasn't a real thai box stadium, it was created only for the tourists. But it didn't matter because any way we wanted to see one.
There were 8 matches, and it started from the youngest and ended to the older ones. The yougest were better because they really were serious and they did fight for real. The older ones were tricked, one was drunk and wasn't really fighting at all. There were also a blind eyes mach. They were 3 boxers and they had their eyes blinded with a scarf. It was actually really funny!
We stayed only 2 nights in Chiang Mai because we started running out of time. Our visa expire the 12th of Feb.
So left Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai. It's in the Golden Triangle, area where Myanmar, Thailand and Laos meet.
We rented a scooter to visit the villages nearby. We went to a village called Mae Salong. There lives the minorities from China and a tribe called Akha. The road was very beautiful, because Mae Salong is situated up in a hill, or a mountain (not sure). We also stopped by a beautiful waterfall.
So here we are now, and tomorrow we go to Chiang Khong where we'll cross the Laos border.
I would have wanted to do a little excursion with elephants, but we don't have time for that. That's the bad side of having only one month visa, you have to hurry up all the time! In India we had 6 month visa, so we could stay in one place a week if we liked it. Of course we could cross the Laos's border and come back to Thailand with a new visa the same day, but we should pay for it...
Anyway, for conclusion, I really liked Thailand. I think it was good to go first to India and then here, and not the other way round. You appreciate the little things like clean sheets, hot water and clean restaurants after India! But like David said, he wouldn't stay in Thailand for 3 months like we stayed in India. It would be boring, because everything works so well, it's too easy!
Sawasdee kaa and Kop khun ka!
