We arrived to Rishikesh the 28th of October. We came by bus from Dharamsala, stopped for one night in Chandigarh. It was really strage city, Chandigarh. It was like an Europeen town, everything was clean and everything was really expensive. And it was very hard to find a hotel with rooms available. They said all that they didn't have any rooms avail but we think that they lied because we saw keyes hanging on the wall and the only rooms which were available were like 4000 Rs a night. So they just tried to get our money! But finallly we found a hotel for 500Rs.
So here we are now in Rishikes, world's yoga capital. And we are really lucky about our timing; there is a Yoga festival that lasts 2 weeks, and you can get free yoga classes everyday!
I've taken classes 2 mornings now, and it's really nice! Yesterday we started at 7 A.m with Hatha yoga class. We purified our bodies by putting salt water to our nose and it came ou of the other nostril. Then the teacher swallowed like 2 glasses of salt water and vomited it. I was really impressed, because it's not easy!
Today I had a yoga class with a 101 years old yogi! He explained how to live a long life. He was so flexible! He could strech how he wanted, he put legs behind his head, and some other crazy things I could never do! I've been going to yoga class now almost every morning and I start to be more and more flexible and know what to do. It's really nice!
We are staying in Lakshman Jhula, a part of the city where is many tourists and almost all the good restaurants! We are staying in a guesthouse and pay 200 Rs/night, so it's really cheap.(1euro=61 Rs)
Tomorrow there is a big Hindu festival called Diwali, so that's why we have decided to stay here until Sunday and then maybe to go back to Delhi for 1 night and then to Agra!
So yesterday was the Diwali Festival There were fireworks everywhere! There was also one that dropped right into the head of David, pomped up again and landed over my head. We were so shocked that didn't know what the hell just happened. But don't worry, we're ok, it wasn't burning when it touched us. We went to see also a Pooja offering. It's a ceremony where you offer flowers and fruits to God and sing.Diwali is one of the biggest festival of Hindus, celebrated with great enthusiasm and happiness in India. The festival is celebrated for five continuous days, where the third days is celebrated as the main Diwali festival or 'Festival of lights'. Different colorful varieties of fireworks are always associated with this festival. On this auspicious day, people light up diyas and candles all around their house. They perform Laxmi Puja in the evening and seek divine blessings of Goddess of Wealth.
Diwali lasts 5 days:The first day of Diwali is called Dhanvantari Triodasi or Dhanwantari Triodasi also called Dhan Theras. The second day of Diwali is called Narak Chaturdasi. It is the fourteenth lunar day (thithi) of the dark forthnight of the month of Kartik and the eve of Diwali. On this day Lord Krishna destroyed the demon Narakasur and made the world free from fear. The third day of Diwali is the actual Diwali. This is the day when worship for Mother Lakshmi is performed. On the fourth day of Diwali, Goverdhan Pooja is performed. The fifth day of the diwali is called Bhratri Dooj. It is a day dedicated to sisters.
