We left from Udaipur to Mumbai. It took us 3 days. First we stopped in Ahmedabad, and we had a lot of chance, because when we arrived in the city, there was a big BUM sound and we got a flat tire! And it was just near the hotel. David went to the mechanic and they repaired the tire.
Next day we continued our trip to Mumbai. It was getting dark so we started to look for a place to stay. We were near Mumbai; in some city we don't even know the name. And it was so hard to find a hotel, nobody wanted us! They took only Indian tourists, not foreign tourists. It was really frustrating, because you can not do a thing! I started calling the receptionist a racist, but they just smiled and said that they are full. There I had my first "I hate India, want to go home"- feeling. I started to cry, I was just so tired for the driving and trying to search a place to sleep for one hour, and these people just smile and say Sorry, we're full!! Argh! I could have bunched the guy! But as always, in the end we found a place to stay the night, but for an expensive rate…
The road to Mumbai was the worst we have driven, only big cities and trucks who tries to kill you. Arriving to Mumbai was very, very, I mean very stressful. The city is like 60 km long from north to south, and of course we arrived from North and we were heading to South. David was more than stressed about the traffic that never finished, always a new truck, bus, car trying to kill you, and also there was some traffic jams because the police were everywhere. It was because Mr Sarcozy was visiting Mumbai that day! First in Delhi we spend 11 hours in a bus that was blocked in a traffic jam because of Obama visiting the city and now Sarcozy! What's next??
There was one cop who stopped us because we took a bridge that was only for 4-wheelers, but he did it after we were on the bridge already and who the hell can make a u-turn when there's cars everywhere?? So we took some time trying to go back where the bridge started, and the cop came back to ask if David has his license. First David was like What? What?, like he doesn't understand, and then he's like yeah, yeah I have a license. And the cop was like Ok, and went away. He didn't ask to see it, which was good, because we don't have a license!
After the big roads, we finally arrived to Colaba, in the South of Mumbai. We were prepared that the hotels in Mumbai were very expensive, but we were lucky to found a room for 550Rs without toilets. The hotel is situated near the Taj Mahal Hotel and we could see the sea.
Mumbai was very expensive in everything, but you could get whatever you wanted, food, alcohol…In the state of Gujarat (Ahmedabad) alcohol was forbidden. We celebrated my birthday in Mumbai; we ate in Leopold's (expensive restaurant, famous for the book Shantaram) where the prices were ridiculously high. Then I wanted a cocktail so we went to the bar of Taj Mahal Hotel. We paid for one cocktail 600 Rs (10E). The hotel is very nice, and the toilets are amazing can recommend you the toilets of Taj Mahal hotel! Really nice toilet paper, good soap to wash hands…
We also did one day in Bollywood!
We had to try it and you get paid 500 Rs so why not!
The persons who asked us to come picked us up from the hotel at 8.00 A.M. They said it was a Bollywood film, but actually it was a small TV- serie. But it was ok, we got to see anyway how they it all works. We waited all morning sitting and doing nothing, and then we had some lunch (good thali). After the lunch it was our turn. We played tourists in Pushkar Camel fare. We were in Pushkar and we know how the Camel fare really was, and it didn't really look like it… Anyway, the way they filmed was bizarre; they checked the scene after every scene and decided if it was ok or not. Sometimes we filmed the same scene like 6 times. And the actors were so bad, they haven't prepared anything. They forget their lines all the time.
They wanted us to be almost all the time on the background. They even let David to have a microphone and speak when an Indian guy asked: "Is this your first time in India?", he would answer: "Yeah!". I know, we are stars now!!
We also did some dancing. We tried to ask that we could get more money because we acted all day, but didn't care…
The channel is called: Star Plus Place and the serie is called: Diya or Bati. They will play it on TV on February. It was the first episode of the serie.
In Mumbai, we went also in a park, where all the grandmothers and fathers do their evening walk. It was funny to see the women in saris and sneakers!
We did go also to the local bars; there were only men and they drank like it was their last day…Really crazy!
Mumbai is a nice place to live, if you have money. There's a beach also, but too dirty to swim, which is a real shame.
We left Mumbai to Goa, and it took us 3 days. It was a lot of easier to leave than to arrive. There was a really nice Indian guy who showed us the way to highway. It really helped!
The landscapes changed the more we went to the South; forests, vegetations and coconut trees…
