Day 33 – 24/08/11

Adelaide Zoo Day …………… I was looking forward to this day, I was keen to see the Pandas (only Panda’s in the Southern Hemisphere) Saw a documentary about 12 months ago in regards to the research and preparation that was needed for them to come to Australia, took many years and lots of $$$$. Arrived around 9.30am – drove as it only took about 20 from camp, Bus or Train would of taken 1.5hrs ??!! Adelaide is fairly easy to get around anyway …….. nothing like Melbourne or Sydney traffic! Hired a car for Billy to ride in that we could push around & we were off …………. Panda’s are right at the Main Entrance so that was our first stop. But Funi & Wang Wang were both asleep, so decided to return later! We checked it all out ………………. Very impressed on the condition of the exhibits, grounds and animals, we soon came to the conclusion that this Zoo puts Melbourne to shame! We passed back the Pandas a couple of times they had moved but still sleeping inside (behind the glass) They have a Children’s Zoo were the kiddies can feed and pat the baby animals. Found the Wombat (my fav) enclosure, no Common Wombat ………. 2 sleeping Southern Hairy Nosed, one very close to the edge. I lent over and gave him a pat! Despite the sign saying “We bite” he enjoyed the rub on the back !! Finally Toby dragged me away and we ended back at the Panda’s after the reptile house. Bonus the Panda’s had just been given some Bamboo in the outside areas, so they were up and about!! Probably spent about the next half hour here watching & taking heaps of snap shots, my holiday to do list was complete!! We headed back to the car now, it was 2.30pm Billy & myself were quite exhausted! What a great day, perfect weather!! Of course Billy napped on the way back to Caravan Park……….. Soon refreshed, he & Dad headed back to the Heated Pool for another swim. Dinner date with a local pub with Ben & Robyn tonight ………… was lovely way to finish off the day. We parted company with plans to do some camping trips in the near future!!
