Day 27 18/08/11
Happy 3rd Birthday Billy xoxox
Woke to ash over the Camper and some very smoky canvas!! Very hazy today in Alice! Uluru is today’s destination! We have made some chances to our plans, have cut out Kings Canyon………. Time is running out and most walks with Billy are just impossible at this stage. So will go and see the rock and continue on……… Put the Canyon on the next list hopefully by then we can all experience its full potential! We first sighted Uluru just after 2pm, booked ourselves into the campground……….
After we set up the camper we decided to go and check out all the tourists (and the big rock). We arrived at the entrance to the national park to find that it would cost $25 per person to enter, that on top of the $40 campsite fee for and unpowered site that was the size of a toilet cubical. I am now starting to understand why this area is so sacred!!!
After draining the bank account we arrived at the base of Uluru to find that the climb had just been opened up for the first time in 3 ½ days. So I decided to check out the view from the top…. Well you are not as young as you think you are Toby!!! It was a pretty steep hard climb for the first 30 mins or so followed by another 20 mins of undulating rock but what a view!!! I took some great photos for Megan and Billy to view on my return.
After ticking that box on my bucket list we had just enough time to catch the sunset from the Kata Tjuta Dune viewing area. What a great lookout, we got great pics of the sun going down over Uluru and the Olgas.
With rigor mortis almost setting in we heading out for dinner for Billy’s birthday, mmmmm Pizza $$$$
