Day 28 19/08/11
Early start this morning to view sunrise over Uluru ……………. Alarm set for 5.45am, we were in the car and travelling by 6.15am. Heading for the same Lookout as yesterday……….. Being a little further out of the way is a little less crowded. Many just head for the areas around the Rock but from this viewing area you can see both Uluru and Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) was recommended by our friend Ben in Adelaide! Beautiful Sunrise! We then decided to check out The Olgas close up, enjoyed a cup of tea and some fruit for brekky. The walks around the Olgas are not really for Billy’s little legs so we headed back to pack up the camper! With the camper packed and a top up of fuel (which believe it or not was actually cheaper than out on the highway ?????) we headed back out to the highway! Eldrundra is at situated at the Stuart Highway and by the time we arrived it was lunch time, we got some Pies for lunch and were soon on the road again. Destination – Marla in South Australia……. Passing over the Northern Territory & South Australian Borders we were reminded about “ NO Fruit, Vegetables or Plants” into South Australia………….. b***** we still had a bit left. The Quarantine Bin was in Marla so we pressed on, myself enjoying the apple that Billy had left over in his lunch box. Arrived in Marla to find the Bin near the Roadhouse. Toby checked with reception that if we ate what we had, could we leave the rest in the morning before heading off!! All good, so we booked an unpowered site. Fairly small unpowered area and no cars allowed on the grass – so we had to unhitch otherwise would be blocking roadway for others. Was a funny set up even the powered sites you weren’t allowed on the grass so Caravans were parked around these grassy triangles!! The camp kitchen facilities were pretty poor and it had been a long day so we decided to head to the Roadhouse and Bar for dinner………………… Barra, Chips & Salad for $13.50 sounded pretty good so we ordered along with Nuggets & Chips for Billy! While Toby was at the Bar a local was informing another don’t get the Barra it’s crap! He hoped he was wrong but alas once dinner arrived he was very correct!! Chips & Salad for $13.50 ……… we left most of the Barra, which we suspect was actually not Barra! Icecream from the servo to wash down the odd taste!! We returned to camper for a early night!
