WHERE VIV'S AT...
Hey well we're nearly at Brisbane - should get there in time for Xmas when we have to leave Rudolf (sob! sob!) but we're going to check out if we can keep him for Xmas (finger's crossed).
Anyway, we're having a great time have done tons of driving - 1800 ks so far - but seen some good stuff on the way. I last left you in Airlie Beach and there we went sailing around the Whitsundays which was fab sailing but poor snorkelling. Stayed at a great campsite for a couple of nights where Kirsten met 3 Italian lads - Geeko, Claudio and Gabby - who on the way down we're constantly bumping into and boy do they make us laugh. Oh and due to a mix up for them in Sydney we got the campervan they booked (said it was last minute luck for us) and they are now in a luxury van with a shower and aircon which is costing them double (shame!!)
Anyway after Airlie we headed inland to Eungella National Park and swam in Finch Hatton Gorge (cold water at last... actually I was not prepared for how hot the sea water is out here, it's really like having a warm bath and does not really cool you down). Found another great campsite with an even greater view right up in the mountains and we overlooked the whole valley which went for miles. And of course, the Italians turned up so sat up with them that night having a laugh and drinking tea (yes tea!!) and then we all got up really early the next day to see the sunrise over the valley below but was a bit cloudy so a bit disappointing.
After that we had a really really long drive and arrived at a little seaside place called Yeppon just north of Rockhampton
"the cattle centre of Oz.." and stayed just for one night to recover - not much to say about the place but another great beach - and we can swim without stinger suits at last!!!
Next stop was Agnes Water & Town 1770 and upon driving in there guess who we saw driving in the other direction??
Found a good campsite in the Forest - lots of anmials and I'm not even that afraid of spiders anymore as you have to get used to them and booked up a tour for our last visit to the reef. After a blinding storm during the night next day we made our way to the boat and guess who we saw getting on the boat (yep the lads again) and so we spent a good day with them visiting Lady Musgrave Island - well good apart from the really rough trip out there (Kirsten not well - sick - and I fell over while trying to walk around the boat and now have a kid's knee). Beautiful island, great swiming and fab snorkelling around the reef.
That night another spectualar storm awaited us but so tired we both slept through most of it.
Right now we're at Rainbow Beach - which is south of Hervey Bay and one of the stepping stones to Fraser Island . It's got a stunning beach, we can swim and we're going to spend a few days here to chill out at last. Had a night on the town last night, well the local youth hostel as it's the only bar here but was fun and I got a bit drunk at last. We're just going to arrange a tour out to Fraser Island now - maybe I'll spend a night there too but Kirsten might forgo Fraser and go diving with sharks (madness!!).
Have tried to upload some great photos for you to see but crap internet place again (very small town) - so next time when you can be wowed by Fraser Island shots too.
Ciao mateys.
