WHERE VIV'S AT...
Well we picked up our campervan on Friday (how excited was we) and promptly named him Rudolf which seemed appropriate. After stocking up with food and beer, wine, vodka and fags of course we set off of the Atherton Tablelands which is west of Cairns and is very high up and has stunning scenery of mountains, forests, waterfalls and wildlife (two wallabies actually sat outside Rudolf on our first night camping but I was not quick enough with the camera).
We've then spent the next two days driving and driving and driving and driving as there was not much to see (but did stay in a stunning QPWS camp site in a forest on the way - these camp sites are so cheap at just $4 each per night and although facilities are basic they are great and include barbie area, clean toilets like the long drops at Glasto, and cold showers which is all you need in this heat. And now 1/2 way to Brisbane which means we can relax over the next 10 days and not rush anymore. Currently we're at Airlie Beach which is the gateway to the Whitsunday Islands and going on a sail for the day tomorrow - which includes Boon-netting (sounds fun??!!).
Lovin the campervan experience and it's so nice to keep away from the traditional backpacker routes. Should have some more photos soon as we've now reached the best bits of our drive - from here on it's going to be great.
Take care everyone - enjoy the lead up to Xmas. Actually it does not feel at all like Xmas here regardless of all the decorations around.
xxxx
p.s the photo is one we took while driving we we're stuck behind this beast for ages then I realised what the number plate said - very appropriate but a 32B can only be a dream... Think what you will of the oversize bit??
