WHERE VIV'S AT...
This place is stunning - Cape Tribulation knocked me sideways but Fraser just knocked me out. Basically, this is the largest sand island in the world and also a world heritage listed site. It's a place of outstanding national beauty (just look at the photos) and has some of the most prolific wildlife in Oz - from the purest breed of dingo to man eating sharks - obviously swimming in the sea here is not a good idea but then that's not a problem as you have these amazing sand-filled natural water lakes in the middle of the rainforest to use.
I've come to Fraser for a couple of days with a tour (you have to have a 4-wheel drive to get here and get around here and even these get stuck) and we drove all the way along Seventy Five Mile Beach yesterday, stopping at Lake Mabby for a swim (but we had to negotiate 10ft high sand dunes first with red hot sand so the cold water was great), the coloured sands and the Maheno Shipwreck and making our way to Indian Head at the top - where we got stuck in the sand and all of us had to push the bus while Matt (our tour guide) dug. But finally we got out. The other thing I did yesterday was treat myself to a 20-minute flight over the Island - it was the best $60 I've ever spent and will remember the views forever. Also
Last night after dinner Matt took some of us on a night beach walk (pitch dark and scared of getting run over) but the stars were all out to greet us and I even saw the Milky Way.
This morning was a walk in the Forest and then the magnificent Lake Mackenzie for lunch and a swim. I've not seen a dingo yet but have seen plenty of sharks and plenty of mozzies and fish and birds and ants and spiders.
I'd love to tell you more but my internet time is running out so must dash to search for that Dingo.
