Today was a blast!! The morning was overcast but the scenery was still amazing. We had a really nice breakfast before a group of us went snorkelling and scuba diving. The boat was not what I expected, it was a typical Tanzanian wooden thing! We were fitted with wetsuits, flippers and our snorkels and off we went!
I can't explain how pretty the scenery was, the photos I took don't even do it justice. We travelled down the coast of Zanzibar for a good hour and a half before we stopped for our first snorkel off the coast of prison island. We had a great first snorkel and got to see loads and loads of brightly coloured fish, but the coral wasn't that spectacular compared to other places I've seen. Sea urchins were also pretty cool until I experienced what they can do...
Yeeeeaaaahhhh... Lunch time = the sun coming out :) We had a veg curry on the boat for lunch while moving further down the coast to our next site. The second snorkel wasn't that impressive compared to the first, but when we got back to the boat we swam for ages and jumped off the sun deck of the boat into the sea, so it was really good fun! Indian ocean is amazing to float it, it was honestly like paradise!
It took a couple of hours to get back to the shore so it was proper sunbathing time on board :) sun tan lotion, sun glasses and up on the front of the boat with the breeze in your face. Guess what it was BLISS!! Plus it was really hot.
We had a quick turn around time, as it was the last night for some of the group as 10 of them were leaving in the morning, Greg had organised a booze cruise for us. We arrived back at 3.45pm and the next boat was leaving at 4.30pm. Enough time for a shower, change and grab a takeaway pizza so I didn't get too drunk :) Yes I know eatings cheating but I had been sunbathing all day and turned a crazy brown colour already!
It was $30 for 4 hours of music, nibbles and all you can drink :D from wine, beers, cocktails, shots and spirits! The evening turned out to be a great ice breaker for us "new ones" to the group. Needless to say we all got pretty tipsy and were dancing the night away! It was a fantastic night and everyone was on good form, well everyone that actually came on the boat. We got back to shore about 8.30pm and went to the bar we were at last night, by this time a few of them were on the bottles of water which was quite funny.
The night didn't stop there, Pheobe, Randa and I thought it would be fun to go for a swim and it was such a giggle haha. Pitch black in the Indian Ocean, laughing away after quite a few white rums. Sarah and Nicole wanted to join us but Sarah had to take Gerrard back to the hotel.. There was a quite a few became pretty tired really quickly ;)
After quite a while mucking about in the sea, I disturbed the whole beach but getting attacked by a sea urchin, yup that's right I screamed and jumped about like an idiot for a while! It was so sore and my ankle went totally stiff, felt like it had went into the bone it was agony for a while. The alcohol consumption earlier also made the situation hilariously funny. Had a black ankle when I went back to the room but managed to get whatever it was out well hopefully all of it!
My roomie Sam didnt go out so she was already sleeping and wasn't impressed when we all came back together making a bit of a noise. It was a bit of a shame because she doesn't drink and isnt really a people person, so the trip ain't what she was expecting. Ive found her crying quite a few times and tried to help her but its very hard. Shes negative about everything and due to her being vegen, she can hardly eat anything lol.
I was quiet as I could be though but we were next to Chris and Greg's room so we were all out on their balcony for a bit before going to bed. Anyways she was fine in the morning well ish,
I had a fantastic day in Zanzibar though, great day in the ocean and a fantastic night out!!
I love you Zanzibar!!!!!!!!! xxx
