After a 40 hour bus ride from Rio we arrived at 8:30am in Buenos Aires. We got a taxi to the hotel where we were meeting our new overland tour group. We were shown to our room and settled in. Later around lunch time we ventured out to try and get some more american dollars for the kitty we needed to pay and that was where our money "fun"started all over again. The hotel was close to where we stayed before so we knew our way around. We couldnt withdraw any dollars from the ATM's so we had to withdraw pesos and take them to the exchange place for dollars. In Argentina they have a rule that says you can only withdraw 1000 pesos a day and this meant we were both short of our kitty total me by just a little bit but Sarah by quite a lot. So we went back towards the hotel stopping for lunch at the Ritz on the way. I had beef stroganoff with mash potato it was very yummy and ENGLISH!
At 6pm there was a group meeting. There were 3 people who had already been on the trip and started in Rio, they were Jake, Cheryl and Dee and three other new people Nicky, Lucy and Thomas. There were three others who were on our tour but were late arriving due to the ash cloud as they were coming from Australia. Everyone seemed really nice and the two tour leaders, Claire and Tony were really friendly. It turned out we only needed to pay half of our kitty so I was fine but Sarah was still a bit short. Afterwards we went out for a group meal in a restaurant about 3doors down from the hotel.
It also turned out that some of the dollar notes they had given us were a bit dodgy so the next day we were to take them back and swap them back into pesos! After that, as a group we went to a football match. The local team River were playing and it was a really good atmosphere. We joined a long queue and got to our seats just before kick off. The crowd was singing nearlly all the time and throwing bits of paper in the air to make confetti. We were sat just behind the tv cameras which was quite cool as it meant we could see the players close up as well. The local team went 1-0 down in the first half but came back level in the second half. We thought it was going to be a draw but in the last few minutes the opposite side scored again and went on to win the game 2-1. This caused many of the local fans to burst into tears as we then learnt that because they had lost the game it meant they would be relegated to a lower league. We made our way back to the hotel.
The next day we spent lazing around the hotel room watching films. Sarah was getting a cold and we needed to sort our bags out ready for the truck the next day.
Monday morning came and we met Anthony the first of the Australians to arrive. We loaded our things onto the truck and set off to Cordoba for an overnight stop. We stopped for lunch in a park and it was quite cold so Claire gave us extra jumpers to wear. When we arrived in Cordoba we went for a nice Italian meal in a local restaurant.
The next morning was free time so me and Sarah chose it to go shopping and we each bought a coat and some boots. We had a quick lunch at McDonalds and then went back on the truck to meet Matt and Neil the final two on our trip and to go to Estancia.
