So after another night on the overnight bus (this time we had roast beef, YUM!) we arrived in Cordoba for an overnight stop on the way to Iguazu Falls. We arrived at half seven in the morning so we went back to bed for a few hours before going to explore. Once again it was a Sunday so quite a lot of places were closed but we managed to find a nice Italian restaurant that was open. After that we made our way back to the hostel and just had a lazy evening.
The next day we were catching another overnight bus to the falls. This was the longest journey yet as we left at 1pm and arrived 10am the next morning. According to the tour we were booked the rest of the day was a free day. So we caught the bus into town and wondered around for a while looking in the small shops. Sarah bought some hair dye and we went in a supermarket where we had to put our bags in a big bag that the security gaurds locked. It is to stop people stealing things in their bags I think. We only had gone in for a look. In Argentina there doesnt seem to be any nice chocolate bars or snacks, which is probably a good thing! They have crisps but only in massive bags the equivalent of about 6 normal bags in one. So having got a yoghurt each we tried to leave but didnt know how to get our bags out of the locked bag until a man came to help us. Eventually we made it back to the hostel, we had managed to catch two buses and not get lost once (a record for us). We did Sarahs hair and had something to eat before once again having a lazy evening. We asked about our trip the next day and got told something about a bus in the morning. Not convinced they sounded like they knew what they were talking about we decided to get up a bit early and ask again in the morning.
So in the morning we asked them about our tour and showed them our voucher again. They said the travel person will come soon so we went and had breakfast. It got to 9am and still no person had arived. We got told again they are coming soon. It got to 10am and still no one had come to pick us up. The person behind the desk in the hostel seemed a bit useless and said we need to wait for the manager to come but he wasnt coming for ages. So we decided to go to the falls on our own as we had obviously by now missed the tour!
We caught the bus to the falls and arrived about 11am. We got given a map and set off down the path. We came across a little green train that took you to the falls (or you could walk) so we got on the train. When we got there, there was a metal walk way going across the river. It was a really wide river it took quite a while to cross. On the way we saw some brightly coloured birds and butterflies. At the end of the walk way were the falls. They were right infront of you, it curved around in a horseshoe shape and then flat infront of you. It made a thundering noise and we got really wet from the spray, it was a good job we had our lovely pink waterproof coats with us! We took some pictures and then went back across the walk way.
Next we did the upper walk way. It was another metal walk way that went across the edge of the smaller falls so you could see the water going over the edge. You could also see the bigger falls in the distance and a beautiful rainbow. After more photos we then did the lower walk way where you get to see the water hitting the bottom. In the end we decided against the boat ride as we didnt fancy getting absolutely drenched!!
After a nice day we returned to the hostel to see if we could get a refund for our trip, which is still to be sorted out.
