Had an amazing day today we went to the Great Barrier Reef, to Michaelmas Cay. We had to be at the boat at 7:30 for check in. When we got on the katamaran they informed us that the wind was 25+ knots, so the journey out was going to be bumpy, which it was! But it was fine, it took about 2 hours to get to the reef, and there is a tiny sand island next to it, you can only stand on part of it as the rest of it is a bird sanctuary and you could be fined $7000 for going on it! Unfortunately the weather was again not too great and it was so windy, but luckily it was a warm wind. Anyway when we got on they asked us if we wanted to do the free 10 minute dive trial, Becca and I did, so we were in the first group so went in first when we arrived, the scuba equipment weighed 30kg!!! So we plopped into the water and had to hold this rope we had to breathe through the aparatus with our faces in the water, I got pretty nervous as it was quite choppy still and it was really weird getting your head around breathing underwater. We also had to show we could put our breathing thing back in our mouths underwater if it had fallen out, anyway we decided we would carry on with the dive, I nearly didn't do it, but we were holding onto the instructor as the visibility was so poor, there were two others diving with us. But it was amazing seeing the reef! We found nemo..! The experience of diving was also amazing and once we were down by the reef I didn't know what I had been stressing about! We weren't down for long but I enjoyed it. We then met Emms back on the boat and went snorkling, I forgot to mention we were all wearing these flattering blue 'stinger suits' which covered us head to toe, which gave protection from the horrible stinging things in Australia's seas! Snorkling was fun, a little boat took us to the island and we made our way back towards the boat over the reef, coral kept looming out of nowhere and it was hard not to hit it! We had lunch on the boat which was fine and then had an hour left to snorkel or dive or go on the glass bottom boat, Emms went on that and Becca and I snorkled again. This time visbility was better as the sun was slightly peeping through and the tide was out, I saw a ray on the sand bed and got a bit freaked as I thought it may be a stingray! We also just saw lots of small and large fish, all beautiful, the reef itself was amazing. We took some pictures this time. The journey back was fine, however we got absolutely soaked standing outside from the waves but the wind was warm so it wasn't too bad, we also spotted about 6 jellies along the way, horrible! I managed to get sunburnt on my face and feet today, even though it was cloudy and I was wearing a full body, including head, hands and feet, stinger suit, a snorkel and mask and flippers!
