We arrived in Airlie Beach yesterday after a 4 hour bus journey from Townsville, we met some people again on the bus who had been on it from Cairns. Our hostel is pretty cool, and were staying for free which is good! The dorms are all separate little huts of 8/10. We went to a bar last night with everyone from the bus, and we also got some dinner there. We chilled after with the guys who'd been on the bus before which was nice. Today we had another early start, and were picked up by our bus at 8.15 for our Whitsundays day tour!! We were on the Whitehaven Express, journey out was fine however we were sitting upstairs and got conpletely soaked! Our first stop was for some snorkeling, which was much better than the other reef trip as it was sunny today so everything was so much clearer! It was also amazing because the crew threw food in for the fish and there were literally hundreds of beautiful tropical fish swarming around. There was also a couple of massive Maori Wrasse fish which have dappled skin and massive lips which were awesome. It was amazig being so close to the fish and we were able to touch them too, Becca scared me though as she tried to hide behind me from a fish with big teeth! The next part of the journey was so bumpy, and the skipper was driving like a bit of a lunatic, so several people were vomming which was nice!! We stopped to go for a bush walk up to some viewing points and the view was actually incredible, stunning scenery, and thankfully the sun was out! White sand and blue sea- amazing!
We then had a BBQ lunch on Whitehaven Bay, one of the top 10 beaches in the world. It was gorgeous however it did cloud over whilst we were there. We also saw a 'bush tukka' lizard as the anoriginies call it, it was very bug and old and had half a tail! Stayed at the beach for a few hours then had a sunny sail back to mainland! Have had a lush day, was amazing going to tge Whitsundays, or Cumberlands as these islands are actually called!
Off to Agnes Water 1770 tomorrow then onto Hervey Bay and Fraser Island! I also forgot to mention in Cape Trib we saw a wild cassowary and it's baby which is very rare as there are between 1100-1400 left in the wild!!
