Hi all,
I think some of our photos are not displaying..but you get the idea! :-)
This weekend we took a road trip to Phillip Island, which is the most southern part of the world we have been to so far. It sits just off the Mornington Peninsula, connected to mainland Australia via a bridge.
We hired a car (for some reason a mini cooper, I know Russ and I are small, but honestly! very cool though). We did keep setting the alarm off at the worst times - funny but embarrassing.
It was about a 2 hour drive, although I think we made it nearly 3..but got to the island around lunchtime, and the weather was nice, so perfect for visiting the beach. After the beach we went to a Koala bear sanctuary. They are harder to spot than you think, but my do they look peaceful! Sleepy little fellas.
The highlight of the day was going down to the beach at sunset to watch the Little penguins (official name - smallest in the world) come out of the water and make the treacherous dash across the beach into the hills, avoiding any seagulls and other predators - was amazing to watch, especially as they came right on cue - 18.13pm, as predicted by the guides. There were not many this time of year, but they were so cute waddling out of the water, and if a seagull came near they would rush back into the water - there were a few false starts! A fantastic thing to see. Unfortunately we were not allowed to take a photos, as it scares them, and we had to remain really quiet whilst watching their journey, so you will have to take our word for it!

derinda Looking at your web page is becoming an daily event as I sit with my cup of coffee trying to wake up. I didn't realise that Penguins were in Australia, for some reason I thought they were only in the Antartic region, just shows how bad my knowledge of wildlife is. It all looks wonderful.
Victoria HI Derinda, It's nice to know we have an avid follower! You are not the only one that thought they were only where there was snow and ice, believe me! It was a wonderful experience. We would love to blog much more, but job hunting is not really condusive to interesting reading!! But once we are sorted we will blog much more, so keep your eyes peeled! Hope things are well your end? xx
