Yesterday was my 21st birthday and I was able to celebrate it in China! My friends here were amazing and they got me presents and made sure I was able to do whatever I wanted for my birthday. Right at midnight, all of my friends marched into my room and sang happy birthday to me! My friend Robert (from Germany) then came in with his guitar and played happy birthday to me. The next day, my birthday, I went to class and then had lunch at Skyways deli with my friends Laura and Sarah. It was rainy and cool so we decided not to go to the lake like I wanted to, and instead I just relaxed and hung out at my dorm. I went to the video store and bought 6 dvds (including some HBO series) for only 100 kuai! (15 u.s. dollars!) Then I went shopping around Gulou (the downtown area of Nanjing that I live in) with my friend Gina. I got all dressed up because my friends decided to take me out to dinner to this really nice fondu place! Before we went, I got presents! My friend Sarah bought me two bags of Jasmine Tea (I drink this every morning and she knew I love tea!) and a to-go Tea Mug. She also bought me these really pretty white earings and wrote me the most beautiful letter. She is so sweet and loving. My friend Liang (our Chinese residence advisor) also came in and gave me this really cute change purse. My friend Helga got me a little diary and a cute postcard. My friend Laura bought me a bottle of wine, and at the restraunt, Gina bought me one too! I finished a bottle and a half! Right before we left, my three guy friends, Jireh, Michael and Robert, came in again and sang happy birthday to me. They bought me two boxes of these amazing looking donuts! They saw nate eating Krispy Cream donuts in front of me on skype and knew how sad I was that I couldn't have one, so my friends went out and bought these beautiful gormet donuts for me! The restraunt was so fun and I was glad all my friends were able to come out for my birthday. We went to this place called the Cheese Pub where they serve very good food including fondu. We wanted to get it but once we got there, other stuff on the menu looked a lot better so we never got fondu. So, my birthday turned out to be really great! I am so lucky for the friends I have made here and hopefully this blog will show how great they am to me. I love China!
